57 Internet Possibilities to Investigate

January 30, 2009 · Comments

No Slowing Down The future is now. Sometimes, we don’t look outside our little angle of it, and that means we miss some possibilities. Other times, we realize something’s out there and we have part of the puzzle, but we’ll catch a different view that gives us even more. I’ve compiled a list of 100 possibilities and things happening out there on the Internet that might be of interest to you. You may have even more to add. Please do.

57 Internet Possibilities to Investigate

Streams of Information

  1. Think about FriendFeed as your own personal newsroom or communications center.
  2. Revisit Reddit as a news source, and also as a roll-your-own tool for information clustering.
  3. Use Alltop as an idea-starter, or as competitive analysis of content spaces.
  4. Cook up six powerful searches on Twitter Search and add those RSS outputs to your feed reader.
  5. Visit Slideshare weekly and search for new presentations to learn from.
  6. Use YouTube as a source for lectures and learning. Use Magnify as a curation tool.
  7. Rediscover what’s interesting in Delicious/Popular. Go back and find tags that matter more to you.
  8. Reconsider your current blog reading list. Do some quick math. If it is more than 60% related to your industry, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Find the outliers.
  9. Pick at least one news source from outside your country to monitor information from a different perspective. One of my sources is The Guardian.
  10. Subscribe to at least one blog with a strong opposing view. Learn from it. Learn where your position is different. Learn how they say what they say successfully. Discover what has impact and what doesn’t.

Web-Based Work

Quickly, what I mean by this is that you might consider looking for web-based equivalents to most of your applications, or web-desktop hybrids. Here’s a list of applications for your consideration, and how they might fit into your work flow. In almost all cases, the apps mentioned work well on both Mac and PC.

get the best premium Wordpress theme out there

  1. Notes and Storage – Evernote
  2. Project Management – Pelotonics or BaseCamp, maybe Staction. (Any others you recommend?)
  3. Sales CRM – Pipeline Deals (evaluating it now). Contact management – Batchblue.
  4. Invoicing – Freshbooks
  5. Scheduling – Google Calendar
  6. Brief Communications – Tweetdeck for Twitter. If you haven’t tried it, do it. (Requires Adobe Air.)
  7. Online documents, spreadsheets, etc – Zoho or Google Docs.
  8. Online presentation management – SlideRocket (or if that scares you, Zoho Show).
  9. Info storage (wiki) – PBWiki.
  10. Instant messaging – Skype (video, chat, audio), Trillian for PC, or Adium for Mac.

The Video Thing

  1. Hulu is good. So is Fancast. The new stuff on Fancast is cool. The OLD stuff is amazing. (**Update: Embeds are there. D’oh!)
  2. If you’re making and uploading videos and not using TubeMogul, why not?
  3. Most responsive to their community – Blip.tv.
  4. If you’re not rocking the Flip MinoHD to make portable video easy, why not?
  5. Devices like Panasonic’s new line of Viera TVs (not out yet) and the Samsung LN52A650 are not just TVs. They do Internet stuff, and Panasonic’s will offer direct Video On Demand service to Amazon Video.
  6. If you’re looking for Netflix instead, check out the Roku box, or check out Boxee.
  7. Video as marketing tool is hot again. Check out PermissionTV, for example. Look past the entertainment angle a moment. See?
  8. Video meets mobile phone? News says Sling has a SlingPlayer Mobile expansion coming for other networks shortly.
  9. I believe (prediction alert) that the 2009 US switch to all digital signals will also shepherd in a huge side-effect shift of high speed Internet adoption. Some of this will be for video.
  10. Need to prove something about all this to the boss? Your research paper.

Small and Local

  1. Think about EveryBlock. Is there a model there for you? Should you consider your local web presence?
  2. Have you looked at Google results lately, if you ask about a location? There’s room for reviews and other information. There are easy tools to submit more search results. What does that mean to you?
  3. On a different tack, Google can’t own local, because it doesn’t scale well. What can you do in helping local information and resources flourish? Is there business in that for you?
  4. Is your organization growing too large? Have you considered the pirate ship strategy?
  5. Have you thought about small communications? What about tools like SocialCast?
  6. What does location mean on platforms like Facebook? It serves local ads well. What else?
  7. Have you built a small, powerful network for your needs?
  8. Have you built a group around your interests like the So Cal Action Sports Network did?
  9. What could Flickr be doing for you? Is there value in coming up with projects that draw attention to your efforts?
  10. Are you adding your local events to Upcoming and Eventful?

Mobile Applications

  1. Explore iPhone apps, even if you don’t have an iPhone. There are ideas there.
  2. Keep your eye on BrightKite. It’s a key to the annotated world.
  3. Mobile audio is a useful communications tool. Have you tried Utterli? (disclosure: I’m an advisor.)
  4. Microcontent is really here. Seen Jesus and Vishnu on Christmas Eve? (YouTube video. Might be offensive on religious grounds.) That’s microcontent. Verizon’s V-Cast is the old thinking, but not far off.
  5. If you’re not thinking about games, do. See things like Gameloft and think about the value of the mobile casual games market.
  6. Have you seen and thought about Modu? It’s hot. The concept is hot. Can you leapfrog anything with that concept?
  7. You think computer viruses are nasty? What about phone viruses?
  8. If snaptell doesn’t blow your mind, why not?
  9. There is more than beer money to be had in developing applications for mobile devices these days. And there is more exposure to be had with that market.
  10. When I say mobile, you think “phone.” Stop. Nike+ is a mobile device. So’s your GPS. So, technically, is a Chumby.

Money

  1. Banking on the net is here. Have you tried Mint? Also, if you haven’t broken down and done it, get a PayPal account. Tie it to a small checkings account with limited funds if you want.
  2. If you’re hoping to help a charity, try a ChipIn widget to help raise funds. It shows progress nicely.
  3. Timing is funny. Christopher S. Penn wrote about money as trust as I was compiling this list. Worth checking out.
  4. You should be eagerly awaiting Chris Anderson’s Free: The Past and Future of a Radical Price
  5. Explore the Freemium model. See if it makes sense.
  6. Affiliate marketing will be a $13 Billion dollar market in 2009. Check it out. (I’m keynoting Affiliate Summit West this fall in New York.)
  7. Have you seen StockTwits? Real time stock talk.

That’s all I’ve got. Here’s hoping we get tons of interesting add-on links and ideas on the comments. Oh, don’t forget that comments with URLs often get flagged as spam. Give me a little while to fish you out.

Hi Chris, nice list, though you forgot to mention Music :)

I like Last FM ( http://www.lastfm.de/ ) for instance. Nice site that allows you to customise the music program. It's great to skip a tune you don't want to listen. For Music tickets you have already mentioned Eventful, I really do like their "Demand" function. Another cool site is Classictic ( http://www.classictic.com ), that sells only E-Tickets for classical music, world wide !!

    Cheers, Dippie
  • eddejoliet
Great post. A number of the sites have proven very helpful in growing the traffic level to several of my sites.
  • secondhandcars
Well worth a read, great points made - Well done and thanks for the points!

  • Hi. I think, that it's a fantastic service for video distribution and its integrated analytics provide video producers with reports/metrics that are easy to decipher and are actually useful.
  • NRI
Great post as always. Good information and i am going to try something like this for my blog.
  • RayMassie
Found Eventful and Upcoming for the first time here. Put them to work right away promoting a high school marching band festival at the school. Love reading the blog for all these sites and ideas. Guess I'm going to be real busy checking them out this week.
  • RayMassie
Just read about Eventful and Upcoming for the first time on this blog. Put it to use right away promoting a high school marching band festival. Great interface and easy to use. Love getting new stuff to see, ideas to build upon on the blog.
  • Great post! I didn't know about TubeMogul until you mentioned it. Online video distribution platforms is something I'm doing a lot more work on now.
  • I would recommend HyperOffice for project management. PayPal is starting to piss me off big time as they've started to charge even for paypal-paypal monetary receipts. What the heck!
  • Hey, you have given so many informations about possible investigations. Thanks for lightening this topic.
  • jun
    Thank you for this list.
  • Thanks for the excellent list. There are many websites I don't hear before.
  • Michelle
For online advertising, now use video ads that is localized and targeted. Use http://adwido.com , it's now free there Chris.

  • Very interesting post. Thanks for some good ideas.
  • this must be a good news for me.thank you for this list and have a nice day
  • Valuable list. You should update it every couple months... /grin No, huh? OK, well I'll bookmark it for reference until its long out of date anyhow.
  • Thanks! I hadn't heard of a couple of these. Some of these were things I set on the back burner...I guess I need to get on the ball :-) Some of these I used on a regular basis like Delicious...couldn't live without that. Just started with Evernote and am LOVING it (especially in lieu of the no more Google Notebook announcement :( )

Although I love the simplicity of searching an online calendar, like Google Calendar...I am still a Franklin Covey write it out kind of girl! I guess I am just tactile that way! LOL

I would just like to say that TubeMogul. is AWESOME! It has really simplified my life and extended my audience. No more going from site to site to upload my videos for me! and your stats are all in once place...BEAUTIFUL!

I use Digsby for IM-ing. It covers AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber and Facebook Chat (way better then the facebook chat sucky window thingy) PLUS check your email for GMail, Yahoo!, Pop, IMAP, AOL/AIM PLUS keep up with your social networks for Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn...it is a huge time saver for me and my team.

    blessings,
    Wendy
    Twitter: WendyMerritt

P.S. I love you on Twitter - you give great tips, links and insight (I use Twhirl for Twitter because it is a great desktop app for multiple accounts)
  • for you bloggers out there, Chatcatcher is a must have. Chatcatcher is an app that will find any posted URL reference to your blog post, whether full URL or a shortened version, and will post to your site as a comment or trackback. Currently works with Friendfeed, Twitter, and Identi.ca. Helps re-locate or co-locate conversations about your material back to where it originated. Created by @swhitley. Also plays nice with Disqus if you're using that for your comments.
  • Thanks for the mention Chris. We are excited to be in the fray with Basecamp! We also recently integrated with Evernote. Now you can create tasks and messages from your Evernotes directly within Pelotonics...pretty cool stuff.

    What a tremendous list!

    Troy Malone

  • Hey Chris, another great fundraising site out there right now is www.createafund.com.
  • Another great possibility to investigate on the project management software front is Intervals. Especially if you are in need of group task management and time tracking.
  • Sasha Kane
I like the way your mind takes in information, formulates it, then unfolds it's unconcious useful thought stream for the masses. Will bookmark this blog for sure and comeback to it many times in the next few months. As always Chris, thanks for sharing...

    Like the new pic!
  • You forgot us...www.ReferQuest.com!

It is a new online community (in alpha) that allows “Requesters” who are buyers and sellers to list their needs or goods without cost, along with a reward they will pay to a “Connector” who can put together a “Referee” from their friends and family network that has what the “Requester” is looking for. Anyone can be a Requester, Connector or Referee – even you!
  • Next time, you'll have to add ZooLoo!
  • Hi Chris,
Great list! Over at mDialog we’ve made it easy to encode and upload video that’s optimized for the three screens (mobile, web TV) with a full set of tools that video producers want. Our Web and iPhone apps lets you deliver videos with interactive social features like surveys, polls, contests, etc. to your on-the-go audience. Add to that our new ad delivery platform, mAD (which can deliver geo-targeted ads by tapping into the iPhone’s GPS technology), and we're doing our best to provide the video tools publishers need! - Greg Philpott, CEO, mDialog
  • Thanks for the great list. Some sites I haven't heard of or didn't give much thought to.
  • Chris, Thanks for this excellent list. Lots of great sites here that I will need to check out.
  • Great list, Chris. I tried a lot of apps you mention. For search I liked what I saw in Leapfish (www.leapfish.com); Addictomatic is great for content aggregation (www.addictomatic.com). Cheers,
    Sarunas
    @sarunasr
  • Great list. Thanks so much, Chris.
  • Kirsten
Great list. So much stuff, - lots of great fodder for my "Social Media Marketing for NonProfits". The amount of tools out there is a bit overwhelming. I'm keeping my paper to the basics, so as not to overwhelm my "media challenged" Prof. Though, I'll be printing this list for my own reference. Thanks for the expansive list!
  • For PM systems we went from Basecamp to Remine and redmine blows the doors off of basecamp. Check it out. Happy to answer any questions about redmine as well.

  • Hi Chris, Thanks for the terrific list! Lots of cool stuff to go check out.
@Chris and @Jackie: While Brightkite may be great for annotating the world around you - we think Loopt is great for connecting people to the world around them in a more actionable, face-to-face way. Here's a video that demonstrates how Loopt can help communities connect in the real world, in real-time:

Nice list - has taken a while to get through that one.

Consider Simple Sales Tracking in your Sales/Pipleline CRM review.
  • INCREDIBLE list. Chris, I know you're not selfish and that you are happy enough hitting the Delicious front page, but this should have also hit the Digg front page getting at least an extra 50,000 page views. A no name submitter got to it before I did, so sadly this will not hit the front page of digg (http://digg.com/business_finance/57_Internet_Po...). I am in no way asking for money or a favor, I am only saying that this article would have hit the front page with the right submitter (me...I'm not cocky I swear). Feel free to email me or contact me on twitter. Like I said before, this list is incredible. You did not leave out a single detail, thanks for sharing! Oh, and TGIF
  • Thanks for this list, Chris--you're always tuned in and have such fresh insight, We're all appreciative of your launch of Brogan36HrDay.com, your invention that brought you 36 hour days to let you read more books and review more tools than all of us combined while still working harder and tweeting more than a border collie trained to press the Enter key every 60 seconds.

Thanks also for your recommendation to BatchBlue in Novermber...I'm still getting my feet wet with it, but I've been thrilled by their customer service and their supertag feature. Now I just have to start actually reaching out to people...

Now back to my Brogan Homework as listed above.
  • Great list. I'll be on the lookout for your review of pipeline deals. Cheers!
  • Thanks for bringing up small and local - I think this is one area that needs work - I was just trying to find events and blog posts about Groundhog Day activities in Pittsburgh and it is a real challenge to search by geography - I think that would be a huge improvement to find local blogs.
  • Regarding your comment about Google and local advertising: check out LocalAdLink.com. I'm impressed with what they have to offer on a zip code specific basis.
  • We ported all mail/calendar/docs etc to Google late last year using the pro service for $50/yr. Love it. No concerns. No hassles or issues either which is the major benefit over alternatives...
  • Aren't there 63 missing possibilities here?
  • Stocktwits is definitely great, but I would add two more to the list: Freshbooks (invoicing and time management for freelancers) and WeSeed.com.

I'm partial to WeSeed as I work there, but it's a great tool for easing into the stock market, learning about what you already know about the economy, and using the power of community to see what other buyers and shoppers are favoring...and what it could mean about the market. We're still going through some growing pains, as it's a young website and constantly trying to keep up with the needs of our users, but it's a great place to go poke around.

Thanks for an awesome list! I was excited to see how many of the services I already take advantage of. ;)
    Caitlin
    @crosberg
  • @David Miller - not me. Anyone else?
  • Great resource, as usual. Answered a few specific questions I had been wondering about.

About Google Calendar- Have you had any privacy problems with that service? Have heard some complaints, but haven't had time to check them out for merit vs. paranoia.

    Keep up the great work-
    David Miller
  • The thing about a list like this is I just picked some out of the air based on my own reasons for liking them or using them. YOU get to make the difference by talking about your stuff. Look at Ben from Overlay.tv . He's got a great product, and it's worth your time. By the way, I could write "57 Video Services to Check out." I could write "57 tools for bloggers." I could write "590 blogs not to miss." (if I scraped my Rockstars page.

But that's why there are comments, and why you could start your own blog post with the "41 Things Brogan Missed" with a link so we know it's there. : )
  • Hi Chris!

Love the suggestions! I've taken notes and will do some as you suggested! :)

    All the Best!

  • What a huge roundup list you got there Chris, Well Done!!
  • I hear a lot about Mint. I should probably check that out.
  • @Dean - I agree - feedfuze is a great tool!
  • Great list indeed - miss only salesforce.com in Sales CRM...
  • Chris,

Have you heard of http://Feedfuze.com ? According to feedfuze: "Feedfuze is not a reader client, or feed "joining" tool. It's a system that allows content publishers to generate their own feeds and display widgets by picking and choosing stories from many other feeds. We call these new targeted Feeds "FeedFuzes".

My friend Pat Kitano of http://Domusconsultinggroup.com, Real Estate strategist, utilizes feedfuze to help brokers position themselves as the go to source(s) of breaking news and trends in their regions.

This tool has a number of possibilities for those of us moving information forward, establishing our networking, and bringing solid information to our target audience(s).

  • I know a lot of your readers haven't seen Overlay.TV yet and I'm not sure you have looked at it so I want to throw our name in the hat if possible. We have a free way for marketers and SM types to make any video interactive - full free-form DIY creative tools - that ensures your links, products and annotations are ported around the web as your video gets shared and viewed.

Several Twitter users have built videos for their blogs and sites, and a recent user was able to build viewers using Overlay.TV on the Bebo platform and generated nearly a million views on a single asset and thousands of clicks on the clickable parts of the video.
  • Awesome list that will have me studying each item for a week.
    Saludos from Chile!
  • Some good, fresh ideas here. Thanks.
  • Thank you Thank you Thank you Chris - I am absolutely blown away by the scope you introduce with this post.
And I cannot recommend enough getting an iPhone to handle all the SocMed with - multiple email accounts, plus apps for Facebook and Twitter! Best tool for the job! (And no, I am not connected with Apple in anyway).
Thank you so much for your tireless efforts - keeping us up to date with everything we need to know!
That's why I recommend you to all newbies as simply the best resource they need!
  • You've made a list to make someone's head explode. Congrats on becoming a little too @cspenn.

I second Evernote and Freshbook recs. Best note keeping and invoicing apps hands down. I can't live without Freshbooks iPhone app.

    Thanks for the BatchBlue mention!
  • Chris ... there is way to many things here to make use of! Now I'm going to find my self wasting to much time here on your site :)

    Thanks for putting this together.

  • Great start! On the video front, we have been helping a lot of bloggers and marketers get their message out with interactive video - this means that everywhere your video is embedded or shared it links back to your sites or products instead of wherever it's hosted (which is not really relevant).

Check out http://overlay.tv - lots of folks on Twitter and in the marketing sphere already using it successfully and we are all on Twitter listening and helping to promote your work on our platform.

    Thanks Chris!
  • Craig Huffstetler
Great list. It provides a lot of inspiration for where we're (the world) is going and what to aim for.

I'd be interested in some reviews of the products you've mentioned that aren't necessarily main stream or that have a plethora of reviews already out there.

    RE: CRM
SugarCRM is also a very flexible CRM.
  • @Robin - yeah, I was dumb. @tomatfancast and @fancast on Twitter already fixed me, so I edited that part. (D'oh).
  • This really is a great resource. Thanks again for putting it together. I am always impressed how you know so much!

On behalf of Fancast, we are honored to be included (under the "the video thing").

We currently allow all videos to be embeddable. Did you have any error when you tried to use it? Let me know, so we can fix it asap.

    Your Servant :)
    Robin (for fancast)
  • Absolutely awesome.
Thanks for giving me something to spend the next week trying out :-)
  • Chris, fantastic list of web ideas to ponder. Its a great way to start my day. A lot of these ideas, especially the Small and Local category gave me some great ideas of things to try out.

Always a good source of inspiration, thanks.
  • Hey Chris - for #13, have you tried Highrise? If so, I'm very interested in you opinion on it vs BatchBlue.

    Thanks for the great list.
  • Also, has anyone seen or tried Lexy's quickcast? http://www.lexy.com

It's a service that sends news and entertainment "quikcasts" to your cell phone. You can broadcast to it as well.
  • I would like to re-word this post as, "The SM Bible." Chris, this is an unbelievable list for those entering or already in the social media space! The one category I'm curious about is the "Small and Local" list. Can you elaborate on what you mean when you use "Small and Local" in this context?

Looking forward to passing this link (or should I say these links) on to many!

    Thanks for the homework assignment:)
  • Chris,
any idea the difference between Loopt and BrightKite? Or is it a preference thing? So far, haven't found much value in Loopt, but maybe I'll try brightkite.
  • Killer list and reading. Chris great work.

Mobile space is something everyone should be interested in and it has tremendous potential. Everytime I think I have come to terms with the potential of the mobile communication world something or the other comes in and stumps me.
  • Lots of great ideas here, as usual. Nothing better than taking what already exists and re-discovering it or using it in new ways. I especially liked your mention of re-discovering delicious (yeah - i remember them!) by searching tags. Others, like Evernote, I already am in love with and blogged out, see - http://www.internettechboston.com/2008/08/18/ev... if interested.

Of course, as part of PermissionTV, you already know how I feel about the future of online video and how we can help marketers. We're really excited about 2009 as the breakout year for interactivity with video. Here's an example of how we've integrated our video player with the twitter stream. We call it our Twideo Player - http://www.permissiontv.com/live
  • Chris, great list, but one thing: behind these platforms you need strategy. You need voice. You need message. You still need basics of PR that bring these disciplines together and help leverage the power of these emerging ways to tell be a great story teller.

Oh, being a good (I mean great) story teller really helps.
  • You really should look into Digsby (http://www.digsby.com/) for instant messaging. While quite new and still under development it is already heaps better than Trillian and with a sleek interace too boot, plus it supports most every IM-network out there, including Facebook-chat!

In addition it has social network integration with Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, for both reading and publishing, as well email integration, not to mention web-based chat modules that you can link to your account, so web-users can chat directly to your Digsby-client from your website! Oh and it really light on systems resources too.

It truly is an amazing application, and just to mention it I have no relations with them other than being a user and a lover :-)
  • Thomas Ho
This list alone would keep my http://bit.my/cit499 students busy for the rest of the semester!
  • As far as lists go, this is pretty awesome! Not even sure where to begin. I've delicious'd it and tweeted it and clicked all over it. It's sensory overload!
  • Chris, I read a lot of posts every day but it's information like this that I worth it's weight in gold. Knowing what other people are using and how really adds value and provides shortcuts through the clutter.

Thanks again and keep up the great work.
  • this is just simply masterful Chris...thank you for this and other work that you bring forth as such powerful resources...do appreciate your twittphilanthropy...cheers
  • Now I know what I will be doing each and every moment I have to spare. You are a marvel, Chris. Thank you for this list.

I am humbled by your breadth of knowledge and your willingness to share it. Rockstar doesn't do you justice..more like messiah.
  • RE: #24 I don't rock a Flip HD because I instead rock a Kodak Zi6 Pocket Video Camera, which uses two "AA" batteries instead of an irreplaceable internal one and records to SD cards instead of a limited internal memory. It also records in AVCHD (H.264), meaning it goes into iMovie/Final Cut with no preconversion. It also does 60 FPS for slow-mo edits later and snaps 3 Mpx stills.
  • Chris, thanks for continuing to broaden my world. Point # 8 about broadening your weblog reading is right on target for EVERYONE. I get the best ideas from outside of my industry. Think about twitter searches for interesting keywords outside of your industry and see where they take you...
  • Excellent, excellent resource list Chris. Thank you! I feel like I need to spend an hour on Brogan-Stuff every day!

    Steve
  • For project management, I recently stumbledupon colaab - it's a collaboration service that allows your colleagues to review and revise documents, images and video in real time.

    Worth checking out.

    Andy
  • WOW! That's a heck of a list Chris and wonderful information ... I'm off to try many of your examples I am not leveraging. Agreed - Evernote is fantastic and really does, like their tagliine says, "Remember Everything" (also a very solid iPhone app) ... TweetDeck is a fantastic Twitter client, you might also consider Twhirl, especially after the update which will soon be released (I am a beta tester and just loving it) ... and indeed, PayPal is the "old guard", but I've been hearing a lot of buzz about Mint and will give it a shot.
  • How do you do it indeed. (Still struggling to process a few other suggestions like Batchbook)

But what I find curiously missing in these categories (tools to work/connect etc) are the actual opportunities to make money. I have looked at countless opportunities and they're pretty much mostly crap. I would love to hear your take on good online marketing (directly for money - as opposed to productivity tools which are indirect.)

Not sure if I made that clear enough?

BTW I found one (opportunity) today. I don't want spam your site/comments with links, but I have a genuine blog post about it. I hope like hell you (folks here) won't prove me wrong and tell me how bad it is :-)
  • Hey Chris...great list.

    Don't forget to try:

99designs....the easiest way to find the right designer for a logo, website, business card or any other graphical element.

    Manymoon...for project management

    Cheers!
  • Hi Chris - What a fabulous list. Thank you for all the hard work you put into it, and for sharing your finds.
  • Thanks for the list - this is the most useful blog I've seen all year. I'm a fanatic for web-based productivity tools and have tried a ton of them. Couldn't live without Evernote (especially the syncing w/ iphone part); Have used a bunch of CRMs, tried HEAP Systems' crmondemand.biz, now using Zoho CRM, settled on Intuits's billingmanager for invoicing, have been using gotomeeting.com for presentations (zoho doesn't let you initiate a meeting from mac); and HEAP Systems has a great wiki also called mytorch.net (all their apps have corresponding iphone apps). And skype with call in number and voice mail is the best business communications tool ever invented.
  • I've got to vote for Salesforce.com as the ultimate CRM choice. They even have a $99/year version. You don't want to have to work within the limitations of another CRM's prescribed fields and workflows ... you should be able to customize it exactly for your needs.
  • Thanks for this list Chris. Lots to think about and mull over.

I agree with you on TubeMogul. It's a fantastic service for video distribution and its integrated analytics provide video producers with reports/metrics that are easy to decipher and are actually useful. I highly recommended TubeMogul to anyone producing online video content.
  • Great Compilation.. haven't tried most of them and haven't heard abt a few. Will look into each of them..
  • Chris, Great list of possibilities provided for us. Thanks Chris!
  • Hey Chris,

For project management I use Pivotal Tracker and absolutely love it.
  • I've gotta tellya Chris, most of the time I read your posts and I'm blown away; I just feel like a blithering idiot. I mean, how do you come up with this stuff? *LOL* Awesome post, awesome info; extremely thought-provoking. It's good to blither every now and again... :)
  • I guess this post has given me enough to work on for week.

    I mean research work.

    Terrific.
  • Hey Chris - Great list! You might want to also take a look at Regator as far as streams of information in blogs go. There's a lot of different stuff to find and enjoy.
