My experiences on going by train in the UK:
For longer journeys it's cheaper to fly (and quicker) unless you are a regular traveller with a discount card (and even then the plane is sometimes cheaper).
No power points at the seats (but the same often goes for planes).
Trains are frequently packed and I've often ended up standing for most/all of the trip.

But nice article, wish our trains were like that. My choice would always be to drive. That way I get to choose the route, the stops and the music (I hate headphones!).

In the UK it does depend where you're going and at what time. For example going into London for a day trip is easier and cheaper by train - no parking fees or traffic jams, and a one-day travelcard is still good value, at £17 for example from north Kent to London including an all-zone travelcard off peak.

[...] Begun in 1971, Amtrak now operates passenger service on 21,000 miles of track connecting 500 destinations in 46 states and Canada. But did you know that three of Amtrak’s busiest stations are right here in Pennsylvania? You’ll find them in Philadelphia (30th Street Station), Harrisburg, and Lancaster. Amtrak operates approximately 120 daily trains through our state. Why should you use the train?
I like #10. Took the train a few times as a kid from Omaha to Fargo as well as through the mountains of Colorado. I would do it any day. I know it would be more relaxing. Healthier.
