Yahoo Music ALMOST Neato
So Kat and I just frittered away about an hour watching Yahoo! Music, more specifically Yahoo Music VIDEOS! And it was really cool.
EXCEPT
We saw a neat version of “White and Nerdy” by Weird Al, only done with fan-submitted video footage, and we thought, “Wow, that’s cool! Let’s share it.” And yes! There was a share button. If I wanted to email you a link to that site.
LET ME EMBED, dammit. It’s *still* going to point to your site, still going to offer the “buy” link that’s the reason you show videos. You can still play your preroll adds.
Sorry, Yahoo! You were *almost* cool. Try again?

ChrisList
In the theme of Craigslist, here’s Chris’s list.
Wanted: Book
I want a specific-ish book. I want a fiction book in one of the following themes:
- Privateer- a ship and its crew making their own way, either nautical or space (no, not Star Trek).
- Colonizing and Governance- something about making a new start somewhere, and all the challenges. Most any genre will do.
- Secret Society - Something where someone uncovers a clandestine group and explores it from the outside looking in.
I’m really picky, but lob a bunch at me. I’d like to know.
Wanted: Blogs
What are the BEST blogs you read that I’m not reading yet? If you can, give me the RSS URL instead of the site, but either way.
Wanted: Your Schedule
Are you having a cool new media meetup? Are you going to a conference I might want to attend? Share with me, and I’ll let you know where I’m going, too. (Maybe I’ll even use Upcoming.org)
Wanted: Your Projects
What are you working on that’s cool? I’d love to get an update on what you’re doing in 2007.

Thanks in advance. Feel free to email me, if you’d like. Or leave it in the comments if you feel like sharing. Thanks in either case.
Answering Jeff
Jeff has a great set of questions that he’s not calling blog tag 2, but that I think would be fun for a lot of folks to answer, so *I’ll* pass it around like blog-tag. Here are the questions:
- Most Useful application
- Best Web site
- Worst Web site
- Hottest Trend
- Favorite Gadget
My answers:
1.) Gmail - I use the HELL out of my mail, searching it, tagging it, archiving it. It’s still my top app.
2.) Google Reader - Okay, it’s an RSS reader, but that way, I can answer all 150 sites I read in a given day. Believe me, I do more reading of your stuff than I do “visiting” other sites.
3.) Any that don’t use RSS, widgets, and other Web 2.0 tools to extend outward.
4.) Collaboration First- More and more of my friends are sharing-first, asking questions later. That’s nice.
5.) My Blackberry Pearl- If you’re a regular Crackberry user, you should already have Pearl envy.
And now, what’s YOUR answer? I’ll email this to a few people, too.
Surreal Moment
My daughter was watching Rocketboom with me, points to Joanne Colan, and says, “Daddy, is she your friend.”
I said, “Yes, Joanne’s very nice.”
“Daddy, are you taking the movie?”
“No,” I reply. “I imagine that’s Sherng-Lee.”
“Daddy, is HE your friend?”
“Yes, I’d say he’s a friend.”
We stop Rocketboom and watch “Ask a Ninja.”
“Daddy, is HE your friend?”
“I know him. He’s very nice, and he hasn’t killed me.”
The Superhero Quiz
I feel like it’s Livejournal all over again, but Whitney Hoffman pointed me to The Superhero Quiz, by way of Tech Crunch. Yep, I had to take it. If you know me, you know that I love superheroes. So, of course, I had to take the test. Here’s what I got:
Your results:
You are Iron Man
| Inventor. Businessman. Genius.![]() |

Now, I want to explain why I didn’t end up Batman. There are questions such as “Are you a Flirt?” I think Batman would answer that a little more no than me. “Are you a loner?” Well, duh. Batman only hangs out with little boys in tights. I love hanging out with people. The other thing is, there weren’t a lot of heroes listed. I mean, whatever. I wouldn’t have done *much* more because that’d be even more variables. So, I guess this is a long-winded way of saying, “Okay, I’ll be Tony Stark.” Fine.
Steve Garfield Covers Edwards in NH
My own personal favorite “fleeting moment catcher,” Steve Garfield, went to New Hampshire to meet Senator John Edwards and discuss blogging and vlogging with him. Steve put up some pictures and a video clip for those of us who couldn’t attend on his site.
You might remember that Steve is also responsible for my eventual support of Massachusetts Governer Duval Patrick, based on Steve’s coverage of Patrick’s “Words” speech.
Andrew Baron and Chuck Olson are doing an amazing job with the Edwards work, but I still have a spot in my heart for Steve’s method of coverage. Make sure you check it out.

Christmas Aftermath
Go watch Jon Swanson’s video about the aftermath from Christmas. Perfect music, and swell snaps! You’re so clever. I never thought of trash cans as art.
Best 50 Hacks of 2006 Posted
My friend and colleague, Leon Ho, has published The 2006 Lifehack Review of the Best 50 Hacks for Your Life. I’m flattered that I made some of the list. The WHOLE list is great. Here are some that I wrote:
- My Best Presentation Tricks
- The Business Card Game
- 14 Tips for Communicating Ideas
- Productivity Hack: Write Mini Process Flows
- Design an Online Workflow
- Bare Bones Project Hacks
- Six Sleep Tips
- 8 Expenses to Cut, and How
- Desk Side Fitness
Looking through all 50 was great. It’s the perfect time of year to check them out. Leon, who is arguably brilliant at finding great resources to work on Lifehack.org with him, including Adrian Savage, Rosa Say, Reg Adkins, and more, deserves to take a bow for this great work.
