How Do You Heal From Assault?

Jenny Lynn Anderson's tale of assault and recovery

How do you heal from a traumatic assault? What does it take to get back on your feet. I had the opportunity to interview Jenny Lynn Anderson, author of Room 939: 15 Minutes of Horror, 20 Years of Healing (affiliate link), and she had a lot to share. From her own personal tragedy, Jenny Lynn has gone on to make it her effort to make sure that victims find their voice in these situations, and that healing is had by all. She has some very interesting perspectives on how this will all be accomplished. Here’s my video interview with her.

Thank you for this interview – I’m curious what prompted you to include this topic here on your site. It is important to remember that sexual assault and abuse affects boys and men as well – it is not just a women’s issue. Folks should also check out Healing Sex by Staci Haines, one of the best guides for survivors to reclaim pleasure.

I’m deeply humbled by your courage, Jenny.  Your selfless bravery lights the path for many others who hide in the shadows of our society’s deep prejudices to step forward and free themselves from the shame of their scars. If one suffers, we all suffer at some level.

    Bravo, Jenny. Respect, Chris.

    Best to you,

    Robin

Jenny,  thank you for sharing.  I am in the process of writing a book about hat my life has been like and how it has been trying to hold me back.  It takes a lot of courage to put all down in a book and make it public.  You inspire me!

I know this won’t get posted but just a few words of advice.  When you’re doing an interview like this with a woman who’s talking about getting raped it’d probably be a good idea to pay attention to what she’s saying and not spend most of the time skyping or replying to emails during the call.  If you watch at around 6 minutes you can hear typing on the keyboard and see your eyes darting back and forth on your screen and then you throw in the occasional uh-huh for good measure.  Pathetic.  I just hope she didn’t go back and watch this and realize how disrespected she was.
