A Secret About Secrets

Shh!

Almost every time I use the word “secret” when writing a blog post, I really mean “common sense that most people don’t do.”

Shhhh.

Ok, but now, because you are defining a “secret” as “common sense,” and because you’re saying a secret is that your secrets are common sense, you are really saying that it’s common sense that your secrets were common sense.

Ergo, if someone didn’t know you were defining secrets that way, you have officially insinuated that they are lacking in common sense. I think you should hold a press conference and apologize.

Ah yes, I have a good few blogs under my belt called ‘ten insider secrets about…’ and ‘the simple secret of…’.

Thanks for the reminder Chirs. Your secret’s safe with us. Shhhh.

I’d tend to agree with you Chris. These tidbits are secrets and will continue to be secrets to most.

I believe that secret is a word that too many people are using these days when it comes to blogging. I understand why they are doing it, me included, because it generates more interest and more traffic than any other word (well, at least more than most other words).

True, although the word I use more is *frustration* when I see things that others might change but don’t.

Understandable, Chris. There are too many things that “should” be common sense that are really rarities, instead. Sometimes I think it should be called uncommon sense because so many don’t “get” that which we call common…

Heard a quote that said “In most cases, people need to be reminded more than they need to be instructed.” Perhaps that’s part of the secret. We already know (most of what we need) but somehow thinking there a secret makes it more obvious.

If you wish someone to keep your secret, you have to keep it for yourself first.
