It’s funny how Amazon consistently flys just under the radar (for the most part) quietly sweeping up business. Never to be underestimated in my book. Lot’s of people thought Bezos was nuts when he started Amazon.. heh

Chris - I appreciate your insights on this one. Let me add my own example the further supports the idea that it's not about the device, but rather who has the ability to distribute the content in whatever format the customer wants.

In the video business, blockbuster is very much wedded to the DVD format. They are in the "DVD" rental business, instead of being in the "movie" rental business.

Netflix is very much in the MOVIE rental (or more precisely delivery) business.

It's a subtle but profound distinction - especially considering Blockerbuster's latest financial statements show they will likely be bankrupt by the end of this year.

I thought it was equally interesting that Amazon went on record that they would NOT be offering a tablet type computer. Clearly Amazon knows what business it is in. It's about the book content, not the device.

I can anticipate a day when Amazon retires the Kindle but has dozens of Kindle apps on a variety of excellent platforms. If they can get the most titles and make it a great customer experience, I think they stand an excellent chance of winning.

I have a Kindle. I like it. It works. The battery lasts weeks. I don't have to re-charge it. I can read whatever I want, whenever I want... it's a very frictionless experience.
