Announcing the PodCamp Foundation

April 6, 2007 · Comments

Christopher S. Penn and I are announcing this morning that we’ve started the PodCamp Foundation, a corporation (not non-profit) dedicated to preserving the PodCamp brand, and working to help facilitate the organizers of PodCamps wherever they choose to have them.

The goal is to bring people more consistent starting information, while also perhaps helping with the funding requirements of PodCamps, should that be of use to others.

Thanks to Whitney Hoffman for her help.

If you have detailed questions, I’m sure I don’t have detailed answers. For now, it’s a 50-50 company with Mr. Penn and myself. We’ll figure out how best to make it all work as we go along. It doesn’t break the unconference plan. Instead, we’re hoping to be a support leg for the movement, and felt that incorporating was a good option, should there ever be a legal challenge, etc.

More as we figure it out.

Delighted to meet you this weekend. I have extensive experience in starting and growing nonprofits. Will definitely work on next year's Philly podcamp. Suggestions for venues:
    1. Convention center - go for the biggest, fill in in the next few years
    2. Kimmel Center - cutting edge, fun space
    3. Fairmount Park - 9000 acres, many partially used buildings, we could really camp out.

Fantastic idea! Organizing like this is a very good thing. If there is any way I can help out just let me know!

Hey Chris B, congratulations. I am confident in your ability to not only make sense of this but to be able to create a triple win for you and Chris P, for the other PodCamp organizers, and for the PC attendees/sponsors. New business models and sharing of "assets" are an exciting space to be in. Count me in as a supporter.
  • This is fantastic news.
  • I'm confused by this. How does having a central body help preserve the brand? Why it would be necessary to preserve the brand? What if I want to start a PodCamp, are there going to be rules on how I run my PodCamp? Are new podcamps going to have to be cleared by the foundation?

I think a lot of my questions have to do with my not understanding your goals and not understanding what a foundation is in legal terms.
  • Allow me to echo the congratulations. You guys started this for all the right reasons, and it's clear that you're still doing it for all the right reasons. See y'all this weekend!
  • This my friend is amazing news!!! A great decision from two great guys. Looking forward to helping in any way I can.
  • Rocking good news! Great choice too.
  • I am so glad you did this!!!!! Hooray!!!!
  • Congratulations Chris.
  • Congratulations on your new venture! It is a good move for PodCamp and for podcasting in general.
  • All good. well done chris.
  • Sir Brogan

Please talk to me this weekend. I would love to be of service in whatever way I can. As you know I am a fan of the movement and would love to be an instrument in its prosperity (in whatever way possible).

    CONGRATS!
