Another Killer Ad on Pandora

December 2, 2008 · 13 comments

epson ad Okay, somebody give whoever is doing this work at Pandora a raise. Okay, I get that the music service is awesome. I use it all the time. I have it playing more than my own iTunes playlist. But seriously, the advertising? Unbelievable.

Epson. Yeah, like I’d even think to look at their stuff just off the top of my head. No fault, but I don’t really know what they’d sell me.

But that widget? That little slider thingy? I was all over it. And that got me interested.

This is like the Jameson ad I mentioned before.

I’m not sure what else I want to say except that advertisers who play smartly are going to move forward. And I think this is a really unique time for this.

Get together with guys like C.C. Chapman and Mitch Joel, and learn from those straddling these worlds intelligently. Because the schism will hit this segment in 2009.

Good on you, Pandora.

I had no idea you were a Pandora lover like myself. Amazing service all around and while I hadn’t seen this yet it is a killer idea and now I must find it myself.

Thanks for the mention my friend. As you said the key is to do all this intelligently. Way to many people diving into the shallow end of the pool without thinking about the bottom. Always look where you are jumping first.

Great ads work when they are relevant and personal. It also helps to have them in the right place at the right time.

Chris, love Pandora! Actually meet the Community Manager at a Forum One event, she loaded me up with Swag. I have one issue with it though. I am on NX Hits station and it wont let me give a thumbs up or down to the songs, i.e I cant rate them. Whats up with that?

I love Pandora. I’ve been going on for a year to my poor husband about how artfully they integrate ads.

It obviously takes a lot more work than just slapping a banner ad on top, but the result is something that users look at and even admire. If your business model is advertising revenue, isn’t it worth the extra effort?

That is a really good ad. It’s crazy-integrated.

Also, a good playlist has just come out of my clicking and dragging. It’s been awhile since I’ve used Pandora, but I’m back.

Seems interesting. Although I knew of it years ago, I’m new to the Pandora revolution, and I’m loving it. It actually knows now what I’d like to listen to.

Thanks for the really great article Chris.

This ad is great for Pandora. If they’re getting paid for it, great^2 for them!

And while the ad itself is really cool and functions very well for them, the end product doesn’t ring true for me, either. I was actually a little sad when I checked it out after seeing this post. I wish a product I was interested in had such a cool/integrated advertisement!

Agree, I saw this yesterday on Pandora and knew it was an instant hit. This one made me want to make a channel and I never make a station from an ad.

Loved it, Love Pandora.

They really are doing a great job at connecting brand with people, something that 99% of social/web 2.0 tools miss by a few miles (myspace, facebook, etc). I was impressed when I saw this, as I have been with the rest of their advertising recently.

Very smart ad, I noticed it right away on Pandora and it intrigued me.
