Answering Jeff
Jeff has a great set of questions that he’s not calling blog tag 2, but that I think would be fun for a lot of folks to answer, so *I’ll* pass it around like blog-tag. Here are the questions:
- Most Useful application
- Best Web site
- Worst Web site
- Hottest Trend
- Favorite Gadget
My answers:
1.) Gmail - I use the HELL out of my mail, searching it, tagging it, archiving it. It’s still my top app.
2.) Google Reader - Okay, it’s an RSS reader, but that way, I can answer all 150 sites I read in a given day. Believe me, I do more reading of your stuff than I do “visiting” other sites.
3.) Any that don’t use RSS, widgets, and other Web 2.0 tools to extend outward.
4.) Collaboration First- More and more of my friends are sharing-first, asking questions later. That’s nice.
5.) My Blackberry Pearl- If you’re a regular Crackberry user, you should already have Pearl envy.
And now, what’s YOUR answer? I’ll email this to a few people, too.

How about the rural and small town small business Top 5:

I only have one, but my favorite application that I’ve discovered this year, in the business realm at least, is Sharepoint. Although I’m sure it’s not unique and original, it’s the first of its kind that I’ve used.
People were not really using it to its fullest extent until I showed up here two weeks ago. Now we’re using the discussion board for meeting minutes (because you can comment on someone else’s minutes if they forgot something). We’ve got enhancement requests up on the sharepoint site as a custom “list”, so that we all know whatever everyone else is up to. Of course, we’re using the Shared Documents feature, and I love that I can update the project plan on the site (it integrates to all the office apps) and I do not have to mail out updates to everyone.
My new routine of the day is to go to each of my project’s sharepoint sites and make updates so that my teams can stay up to date. It’s very satisfying.
Now I just gotta train the other people to make more updates, adding useful links, contact information etc. It is hard to get people to share - I think you mentioned that in your “Share first, Ask Questions Later” comment above. I’m glad you’re seeing people sharing - I need to figure out how to let people know it’s safe to do so.
