Beware of Bubble Thinking

September 3, 2008 · 8 comments

bubbles People don’t read print any more. Oops, unless they’re rich. People don’t watch TV. Except for the people watching TV. People all use Macs. Unless they are trying out Google Chrome (which released for the PC first). PR and Marketing are the most important part of building a business. Unless…

It’s up to us to keep our thinking open and expanded. Are you watching sources outside your little bubble? How are you challenging your thinking to make sure you’re not contributing to the merry-go-round?

Ahh.. getting caught in the bubble. I see it happening in the FriendFeed group. I try to read up on different blogs and opinions pertaining to each topic I am researching.

If you read the same thing, follow people with the same perspectives, you never quite reach full potential in knowledge and maturity.

True, but I still believe in pushing everyone into the blogosphere…just because it’s so darn cool =)

Hi Chris,

Thanks - it’s a timely reminder to keep all options open. While I doubt many of us are brave/disciplined enough to, for example, look at the ‘Everyone’ tab of Friendfeed too often, being open to the new is what keeps things fresh and interesting.

Great point Chris - one of the things I’m trying to do in the health field is to get people to think differently about what health is and innovating ways in which to create campaigns using social media.

If everyone thought that AIDS was a disease of the poor - we would be in big trouble. Especially if that false information is spread to the masses.

This is a very important point, especially for us techies. I think we all get stuck in our little bubble most of time and it takes effort to break outside once in awhile.

I’m as guilty as we all are sometimes, but I think for some of us, we are pushing out information and want to stay on point. I do think that variety is the spice of life, so it’s important to step outside and look in to see whats going on. I personally love hearing different opinions and different POV’s on the same subject, and thus we can write about the same topic from a different angle and that keeps it’s fresh.
