Connecting Connecting Connecting – Book Reviews

May 24, 2009 · Comments

Here are three book reviews at once. As I say in the video, I didn’t read every single word. Instead, I approached all three books as if I wanted to learn something as a business professional hoping to understand how tools like LinkedIn, Facebook, and other social networks were going to help me. I reviewed HOW TO REALLY USE LINKEDIN, by Jan Vermeiren, THE FACEBOOK ERA, by Clara Shih, and CONNECTION GENERATION by Iggy Pintado. In all cases, the books are decent and would make good additions to your bookshelf.

  • I appreciate the fact you were up front and said you didn't read every word of every book, because if you did ... I would think you have no life. :)

I too liked the cover of Connection Generation, it drew me in. Might give it a try.

Probably won't give The Facebook Era a look; I like Facebook as a pass time, I don't want to drag work into there -- I work enough as is, I need one place to go hang with my friends and have fun.

    thanks for the reviews.
  • Hi Chris,

    thanks for the review !

@MaggieImcg: I know your comment is on the Facebook Era, but I know that many people have a tighter budget and they are hesitant to spend their money if they don't know whether or not they are going to get some value.

That's why we have a free light version of "How to REALLY use LinkedIn" (like Jezra already mentioned) on http://www.how-to-really-use-linkedin.com

And we also have free webinars on a regular basis. See the website for the dates.

Maye Clara and Iggy will follow this idea :-)

  • Thanks @Jan--love the idea of a free "lite" version of a book!
  • There is a free "lite" version of How to Really Use Linked In on Jan Vermeiren's website. At 72 pp, it's not that lite, so it's perfect if you want to check it out in more detail before buying.
  • Sounds like the connection generation is the most useful!
  • Chris, you are a master at efficiency. You approach life with so much fervor it's infectious. By mastering efficiency, you have the ability to promote others and care for and listen to your audience.
  • I have a suggestion--and forgive me if you already do this and I've somehow missed it. Granted, it 's a self-serving suggestion because I've been wanting to read the Facebook Era for a while now but have no book money lately ;) How about when an author (or his/her agent) wants you to review a book, you ask for 2 copies--one for you to review and keep and one for you to pass on to your readers? I'd suggest more than one for the passing to readers part, but I'm sure that would be pushing it

You could do a give away of the extra book (or recycle yours too if you didn't want to keep it) and then that reader would blog about it and do a giveaway on his/her blog, if he/she were so inclined.

If you decide to try this suggestion, can I have dibs on the Facebook Era?! ; ) And if/when you do Tara Hunt's Whuffie Factor, that one too. I promise to read and pass them on!
  • Thanks Chris - I appreciate the video book review!
