Dad-o-Matic- Week One

September 22, 2008 · Comments

Quick report on how things are going since launching Dad-o-Matic:

Dad-o-Matic
Authors: 16 registered authors.
Web hits: (don’t know, stats didn’t pick any up. Gotta troubleshoot.)
RSS subscribers: 37
Google references: 53
Blogsearch : 57
Technorati: (don’t know, it fell down when I was searching)
Affiliate/Ad money made: $4 . It’s week one.

I’m really proud with what we have, especially with the 16 authors. I just added Mark “Rizzn” Hopkins of Mashable fame, Jeffrey Sass of lots of places face, and David Petherick from Digital Biographer to name a few. They’ve got more posts coming out shortly, as do the entire team.

And I hope to pry at least one more dad post out of Guy Kawasaki for next month. (Mind you, I don’t pay him as much as Amex.)

So far, it’s been fun. I’m going to think about how to get more out of it, for the parents in the community as well as how to make the business of running a content blog like Dad-o-Matic make sense.

What’s your take? What do you think about the project overall? What would you do differently, if you were starting Dad-o-Matic?

  • Chris,

It looks like a great site and I loved some of the articles - especially the one for the dads of teens.

As a single dad with teens who has had to deal with addiction, self-harm (cutting) and suicide attempts, it would be great if the community could form here for others who are now hitting what I had to go through. I had no guidance and this would have been useful and you seem to have a great venue coming together.

Please let me know if I can help.

    James
  • Nice looking blog and good idea. If you're interested in more authors, I'm a dad of three and can write about anything from digital photography to how to prevent multiple trips to the fish store.
  • Thanks for this info and I'm glad to be a part of Dad-o-Matic!
  • Chris, this is awesome and sounds like fun. Love the site design so far.
Can't wait to see more. But even more, would love to become an author. I've raised/raising two boys, and now looking at helping with granddaughters. Love to help/support/blog for this.

    Cheers.
  • This is awesome and exactly what I have been looking for. I am excited to be one of the first 50 subscribers. You should make a badge. Are you accepting new authors? I would love to become more involved.

    thanks,
    buck
  • Scott -- I suggest you DO write on (some of) the same topics - always interesting to get different takes on a single topic, engage in a little back-and-forth, etc.
  • Wow - I didn't realize that there were so many authors! We're going to have to start having editorial meetings to make sure we're not all writing about the same topics.

Thanks again for allowing me to be part of the conversation - having a good time.
  • Hi Chris,

Dad-O-Matic is fantastic. I'm very excited to be one of the first 37 subscribers. I haven't managed to read all of the posts yet, but the ones I did had some great ideas/thoughts.

As a father with just one 2 1/2 year old daughter that is already full of ATTITUDE, I know there will be piles of useful information and tips that come out of this site. I look forward to participating as it builds.

    Cheers
  • I'm really enjoying the posts thus far, great idea, great contributors, great posts.
  • I like the blog, Chris. Over time, I'd love to see "beats" for the different writers emerge. In other words, I'll know who to look to for thoughts in particular areas. Connected to this, I'm interested to see how the different writers' voices emerge when they're writing in the daddy vein.
  • Crap, forgot to hit the "Notify/follow up comments" checkbox - doing so now
  • Chris, dude! Why didn't you tell me about this? This is a freakin' awesome idea. I've got 4 kids of my own, so us "Daddy Bloggers" need to stand up for each other.

    Lovingly,

    "Tech Dork" :-P
