Drinking Beer and Eating Whoopie Pies

October 21, 2006 · Comments

I’m at our friends’ house in Maine, slung back on their couch, licking my fingers and marveling at the swirl of flavors in my mouth (Sam Adams and whoopie pie). My 8 month old son (9 months tomorrow) is on a sleep strike.

We’re getting ready to do a podcast, probably something for Megin’s new project, the one she flatly refuses to do, but that Erica and others think is a great idea. Me? I’m answering emails, lamenting that I have absolutely no graphics editing software on this laptop so I can’t help a few new friends until I get home.

I spoke to a bunch of social service types for two hours on Friday, about lots of things, including using social media to help them further their causes. I got really excited during the presentation and I gave them my camcorder. I figured they could use it for their cause, and it’d be a way to prove the points I’d made for the last two hours.

Update: Their 2 year old won’t go to sleep either. The bigger kids had refused, too, but most of them, we’ve worn out. In the case of my daughter, I threatened her. Same effect. She fell asleep.

I’m answering emails about Network2, about Halloween Vlogfest, the party I’ll be at this weekend in L.A. (Are you guys coming?), about Jeff Jarvis, and about shooting a videoblog about a film festival in Arizona.

It’s been very relaxing in some ways. I haven’t slept for crap because my kids refuse to sleep. But otherwise, I’m enjoying being mostly unplugged.

Back to full energy on Monday. In the mean time, what are you doing?

  • A CHC Super Hero
Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them, cheer them, scream their names. And, years later tell how they stood for hours in the cold rain just to catch a glimpse of the one who taught them to hold on a second longer. I believe there's a hero in all of us who keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams.

    Hey guys!
I am just playing catch-up on everything that has happened this week. (Lots of interesting stuff that I'll tell you about soon,) when I was thinking "I wonder what Brogan is doing?" so of course I wandered over to his blog and then saw all of your posts and thought, "This is kinda fun, like a Virtual Brunch where you get to hang out and see what everyone is up to." So I suggest we meet here every Sunday morning, at whatever time kids and life allow up to do so. And Chris that is so awesome that you gave them your cam corder. Rock on!
  • Sounds like a great weekend with the Hatches! What kind of camera do you use?
To show you how far I've come in a short time, I've helped Matt set up not one but 2 wikis (which I had not heard of before I started getting involved in Podcamp) for his projects with people from across the country- so much easier than coordinating emails and playing the he said, she said game.
About to run out for bagels, coffee, and if the kids are lucky, Donuts before returning home- what we call the Sunday Morning Ritual!
  • My dog just woke me up, as he needed to his morning ritual outside potty thing, so here I am.

Other than that, I'm simply gearing up for the upcoming new media revolution.

I'm insanely passionate about changing the world, and I am getting tired of trying to answer the question which everyone keeps asking me..."So, where's the revenue model?"

Heck, I have no clear cut idea - do I really need a revenue model in order to change the world?
