Find the Best Shows for Me

The other day, I challenged people to find me the best podcasts. Lots of people put their own shows up for consideration. I took a bunch on the plane with me to PodCamp Europe, and that was a lot of fun. But I’ve realized something about my consumption. I rarely like SEVERAL episodes of any show. Instead, there are polished GEMS of shows, or one-off interviews, or good bits of audio or video out there that stand alone. It’s counter to how I normally consume, but I’ve come to realize that’s what I really want: the best shows. The shows that you’ve consumed (audio or video) that are “spot on” for your tastes.

So, what do you know? Where are the best shows you’ve consumed lately, or that you consider “all time favorites?” I’m talking about a specific episode, not the entire show. Is it the Something to Be Desired where the writing guy is finally explained? Is it the JETSET where Zadi interviews Chuck D? Is it the cool audio interview with Seth Godin talking about The Dip that I just found randomly on some site?

Where’s the good stuff? Let’s build a list in the comments with links. Okay? Let’s be curators.

    Hey Chris,
    We have playlists cooking for audio at the moment on podcast.com (accounts opening up VERY soon now) and video playlists on the way.

    See the link to my podcast.com homepage.

    Playlists will be available in just about any format there is.

    Also, the nature of a podcast.com account actually turn the user into a directory curator. (Also of subdomains too)

    When I have a few things sorted out at this end, I’ll drop you the link so you can set up an account too :)

    btw: I’m in Boston/Cambridge until Thursday am. if you want to hook up for a beer/demo ;)

    All I can say is that you should have been at Pixelodeon last week. Tons of great stuff and one hell of a party.

    One of my all time favorites is the interview Mark and Bob did with Julien Smith on Social Media on the Canadian Podcast Buffet (I think it’s #35).
    There’s an episode of Screaming Halibut, a comedy show, that features “Women’s fantasy hotline” where a woman calls up and the guy offers, in a sexy voice, to do dishes or fold the laundry….
    I still love the Regular TV/Internet TV ads Galacticast did for the Network2 commercials;
    and I love the Jigsaw Fan Club episode #202 about scientific studies.

    Those are the ones that pop immediately to mind above all else.

    You’re right about consumption. Just like with blogs, in which I don’t read every post, I don’t listen to every episode of a podcast.
