From Dads in Labs to Pirate Parents – Video Book Review

July 3, 2009 · Comments

My friends from DadLabs have written and published a book called DadLabs: Pregnancy and Year One, which I found to be a good mix of useful and hilarious. Tim Bete has a winner with Guide to Pirate Parenting: Why You Should Raise Your Kids As Pirates, and 101 Tips on How to Do It.

Both books were funny. DadLabs would be the kind of book you get a guy who’s about to become a dad. The Guide to Pirate Parenting is perfect for a parent at any stage. I laughed loads during the reading of these books.

  • You quoted Mary Poppins. I'm buyin'!
  • Great review, Chris. I'm not a father, but the knowledge wouldn't hurt. Will definitely check out the books. I've also heard a lot about a kid-raising book called Parking Lot Rules. Anyone else heard of it?
  • Well, I raised 7 kids successfully (I think). They are all grown up now and not serving time in jail and none, as far as I know, are drug addicts. When I see them they smile a lot and are very gentle people.

My secret? Don't make too many rules. We had two hard and fast rules (everything else was negotiable): 1 Respect your Mother; thou shalt not disrespect your Mother. 2. No visitors of the opposite sex allowed in your bedroom to study or whatever. I'm not sure if this is the reason than none of the seven had unwanted children.

That's it. It would make a very short book and not sell very well, I am sure. ;)
  • Both the books sound fantastic. However, since I am not a father nor currently know any expecting fathers, I will say I am most def buying the pirates book. Anything that can make my daughter's and my life easier, make us laugh and enjoy life is most definately welcome! Thanks so much for these reviews.
  • I love "DadLabs: Pregnancy and Year One" book and give it to every expectant father I know. This actually has helpful information with a sense of humour. This is really the mens version of Girlfriends Giude to Pregnancy.
