Game On by Jon Radoff – Video Book Review

I really admire Jon Radoff, author of Game On: Energize Your Business with Social Media Games (amazon affiliate link) and serial entrepreneur. He is bold. He says exactly who he is: Swashbuckler, adventurer, slayer of dragons, commando, storyteller, Internet entrepreneur; explorer of rabbit holes. When I met him, I thought, “what a nerd.” And when I met him, I thought that because Jon quite successfully is everything I might have been, had I not been afraid to be a nerd outwardly myself. I’m every bit the D&D geek. I share a lot of similar backstory to Jon. Only, he turned his into a huge passion and built many successful companies based on those passions, including GamerDNA, and others.

His book, Game On: Energize Your Business with Social Media Games, is an awesome read. It’s very well written. It gives you business advice, even if you don’t plan to launch a business based around World of Warcraft. It’s just really great solid business advice and it inspires you to look creatively at what you’re doing.

I have a funny story about gaming and work.  When I was at my law firm, we represented an MMO developer.  A lot of us young associates would play MMOs  with the CEO of this company every night, and then we would get to put that time down on our time sheets as client development time.  The partners thought we were rockstars.  They couldn’t believe that their young associates were playing video games with the CEO of an important client.  World of Warcraft became the new golf course.

It’s funny that you mention this book Chris, for a while there, I honestly thought I was the only one who had read it. I agree totally with your review and wish more people would pick it up. I’ve been studying and talking about gamification for a while and Jon basically wrote the book I wanted to (so now I have to think of something else, bah) but it was a great read and I really think the principles he brings up can and will help businesses in the future if and when they decide to implement some of those game mechanics into their own loyttly programs and social media actions.

    Great video!
