Turns out I was completely wrong. I reported earlier today (deleted to avoid confusion) that Google Reader added some new functionality. Whoops. It was a Greasemonkey script Firefox add-on called Better GReader.

Google Reader’s engineer commented below saying I’m wrong. He’s right.

Reminds me of something I say often: how WE see the Web isn’t always how everyone sees the web.

Sorry for crying wolf.

  • I'm not seeing anything like it
  • Not working for me--the pages load the same old way they used to, into a new tab. What the heck?
  • Very interesting, I'll be looking for that today. Thanks for the tip Chris!

  • I have not seen that yet either, must be a staggered deployment like when GMail adds features...

I was excited when I read your post and then went back to my google reader, but it is doing the same as it always has. I then went to settings and any other tab I could think of because I thought maybe I had to set it that way. Never did find anything to reset. Maybe you were just the lucky one to get this.
  • Might be some sort of Google test.
  • Sorry to disappoint, but we haven't rolled out any such features. Are you sure you're not running any Greasemonkey scripts or Firefox extensions (like Better GReader) that add such "preview" features?

Chris, I've got greasemonkey, and I installed that plugin, and it worked GREAT! I LOVE it! Thank you for sharing! :D
