The swell folks at BlueGlass made me a nifty infographic about Google+ for business, replete with all kinds of factoids and thoughts to consider. I’m not always a super fan of infographics, but there are clearly some advantages to them, it would appear.

Nicely done.Â Lots to absorb. Its obvious we can’t ingore Google+ anymore, and we have to stay on Facebook (its not an either/or situation), but its just crazy having to update and “work” so many social media channels: There’s Google+ Personal & Business Page, Facebook Personal & Business Page, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and the newbies like Pinterest.Â I know I’m having a tough time, my SMB clients are going crazy.Â You make it look so easy, but maintaing these channels in the right way, with awesome content and continual engagement sucks up so much of their time and recources.Â So do you spread yourself thin, or rather stick to one channel and do it well? Any suggestions from the pro?

Is anyone else reading this thinking this is what we’ve been doing on Facebook everyday for the last 2-3 years? Â Personally I think that people aren’t “using Google+ to its full potential” because they just don’t like it. All the infographics in the world aren’t going to change that…

  Well I think a big part of it is that even though G+ isn’t that different from facebook it’s still foreign to a lot of people. Most people hate change so they won’t switch over to G+ unless they absolutely have to. I think the only reason facebook got a chance is because at the time of its rise myspace went completely to hell.Â
  
  I would say in most scenarios once you are on top as a social company you don’t get dethroned you actually end up dethroning yourself.

I’m a fan of Google+ and I like this infographic. Thanks for sharing it, Chris.

I developed and am teaching Â a course called “social media practices” (this is the first semester). We’ve spent a good bit of time in the course experimenting with Google+. The students aren’t really using it outside of class but next month they have to develop and create social media plans for a real world business or nonprofit (they pick) and Google+ must be included in the mix (to some extent). I think this infographic will help them understand why.(Infographic = It’s graphic and it provides information, not sure what else to call it, just because the info isn’t a pure statistical summary of quantitative data doesn’t mean it isn’t an infographic).

There’s no doubt that Google+ has great potential, but will it survive in the social landscape? Only time will tell. I think Google will certainly be investing lots of marketing and development dollars to make this attempt at cracking the social networking sphere a success.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Google+, it is just that it does not fill a market need like Yahoo!’s Livestand digital Tablet magazine – personalized content in a magazine format. Google has Search: no better place to go than Google to find what you want. But, that is not the same as delivering custom content – videos, images, articles – to a person’s fingertips that is in a format that is easy to read, scan, and roll through like a magazine.

Very interesting and helpful infographic Chris. Â Google plus has really been receiving so much attention lately. Â With more richer forums provided for companies to share news to the public, businesses have preferred using it over other social networks. Â

This infographic is riddled with false data, illogical data, unsupported data, and lack of clear supporting facts Chris.

How can 50% of twitter users log in every day when they claim 450mil accounts and only 175mil tweets per day. This means 225mil people log in and only 40mil of them tweet? That is ridiculous.

Facebook has the same problems. They have 1 action on the site per 2 log ins. Since many people take more than one action this says 75% of people logging in do nothing but read?

If this is all true it says Social media is not very social.

Adding toÂ @howieatskypulsemedia:disqusÂ ’s comment, there’s one glaring oversight in the information – the numbers of active users.

At South by Southwest, my friend and a very smart guy by the name ofÂ @MattHixson:twitterÂ pressed the G+ representative on the numbers. She as much as admitted they were false, because Google counts every single action as an active user.

So, I could be a Gmail user that never uses G+, and just because I click the alert at the top of my Gmail about new G+ notices, I’m classed as an active user (even though there’s no further interaction on my behalf, let alone actually jump over to G+ and use the platform).

That’s one very big gap right there, and one that Google shouldn’t be using as a driver of stats.

Brilliant infographic for new businesses to Google+ Chris, thank you. Â As for the comments regarding the stats – I think everyone who has been involved in online business for long enough knows that most stats are always “best estimates” at best. Â

Not only is the data reliant on how the “source” compiles, extrapolates and/or filters it – but how we interpret it makes a difference to0. Â
What I recommend new users do with this infographic is take the numbers with a grain of salt and simply absorb the STRATEGY tips as the real GOLD. Â Then, as with everything – you give it your best try, track your efforts, learn from the results whether this is a good channel for you or not and if it proves to be – THEN look at how you can get the numbers on your side.
