Great Reads Out There

February 5, 2008 · Comments

Sifting through about a thousand unread RSS articles, I came across several great posts that I wanted to highlight for different reasons.

Valeria Maltoni talks about the value of social media as lead generation. In her post, she cites a few examples of how blogs and other social media worked as a way to build interest in something (a tailor and a restaurant), and then asks whether the same would apply from a B2B perspective. It’s a great question. What’s your answer for Valeria?

JP Rangaswami writes about how he loves seeing various web tools being used for interesting purposes, and that it’s even more satisfying when it’s a tool that others have said was a waste of time. There’s so much in this post that you should just go read it yourself. Too much to cover, and always a great read like that out of JP. I had the pleasure of having dinner with him not too long ago (thanks to an organized dinner by Laura “Pistachio” Fitton, and am so glad I went.)

Paul Colligan points out that he’s right and I’m wrong. Okay, he doesn’t say it, but just as I’d pretty much said that audio podcasting might not be where it’s at, Paul points to a fancy schmancy survey that says he’s probably right. (Oh, and for the record, Paul is a presenter’s presenter. If you need a speaker on social media, invite me as a backup, because who you REALLY want is Paul. He rocks!)

Beyond that, never hesitate to read stuff written by the Rockstars, most of whom are kicking blogging butt and taking names. Check out Jon Swanson and Bold Words and Paisano.

There’s lots of good stuff out there threading the needle. What NEW reads have you found lately?

  • Thank you for the shout out, Chris. We are having a great discussion on behalf of business. Not long ago, we talked about breaking out of the social media silo to address some of the main questions we are getting from business. As I progress in my corporate work, I am working on educating *and* testing. Your input is valuable and appreciated.

Came across JP Rangaswami's post myself - a great read and so true.
  • I wrote this post trying to explain what that I think is missing today getting marketer a good staring point.
