Happy with My Mosso Hosting

I’m grateful for Eric and Justin Rasmussen from Coffee House Ideas for putting together a chance to be hosted by Mosso. We were all using some servers at a different place, and when I went through a bout of trouble with my servers a few months back, the guys told me that we had to look for someone a bit more robust. That ended up being Mosso.

I was pretty pleased with the transition from one service to the other, but what really won me was when I mentioned on Twitter that I was in the midst of moving over to Mosso, their @mosso account saw it and responded back quickly.

They have all kinds of packages and it depends on your needs. Turns out I needed a pretty robust service for all the traffic I’m passing. You might get away with something different. If you’re interested, here’s a nifty affiliate link to the different offerings they have.

So far, a month or so in, I can vouch for Mosso as being reliable, fast, and responsive. It’s everything I need in a service.

    Can you talk about the edits to the core WP files you had to make to correct transfer the IP addresses since Mosso can’t properly handle IP address passthru on their servers? What about email changes due to the way they handle mail processing – that either you have to use smtp or force parameters that sometime require core changes as well?

    I’ve been with Mosso since March and the service has improved dramatically since then. But it’s still not perfect and can be very frustrating when trying to keep an installation of drupal, wp, etc. current as the core has to be edited every single time. I do like Rob and the support is U.S. based which is great.

    hmm – well then things must have changed – i still see plenty of 172.xxx ip addresses so that tells me that it does require magic! And I am not talking about mass-mailing, I am talking about say Drupal’s normal contact form or WordPress’ normal contact form.

    It seems like the trend is really going towards cloud hosting. After moving from shared to VPS, I could say that I can’t be happier by migrating again because not only now my site is more responsive, but also for scalability.

    Mosso is owned by Rackspace and just recently Rackspace also acquired Slicehost, which most likely fits in Mosso’s cloud server.

    I’m with Slicehost’s competitor, Linode. :)

    We were in a similar situation as you and through one of the companies my nonprofit honored in 2006, Rackspace, we heard about Mosso for smaller firms. They have been absolutely incredible. Over phone they’re quick and great — never had to wait longer than 20 seconds to reach a live person — but they also have almost as great support on livechat. I highly recommend them.

    Hi — do you or anybody have experience with installing a Drupal multi-site on Mosso? The lack of SSH access means no symlinks, but perhaps there are different ways? Thanks!

    @ vacilando:- that may be possible, by using aliases, since we don’t offer SSH, and symlinks would be broken if you even try to create them, it may or may not work.. several customers have it up and running without a problem though

    Glad to see someone likes Mosso. I had my site hosted with them for a year but afterward I opted for Windows VPS hosting just to make sure I don't get the “bandwidth exceeded” error anymore.

    Mosso has been great to us and we use them for a number of projects, but for a new project we're testing with SiteCloud. It's pretty good so far.
