I’m sitting in the back of a session from “Things I wish I knew when I started podcasting,” led by Jason Jarrett. I’m laughing so hard my laptop is jiggling in my lap. He’s talking about all the things that he learned from when he started podcasting. He’s talking about all kinds of gear (God, I hope he puts up these slides) and all this stuff he’s changed from to a much more simple system.
The message so far today: Europe is an undiscovered country. There are these great islands of interesting creativity happening, but should all my new friends from here rise up together, gather, and share their power, this will be a new marketplace.
If you’re a US-based podcaster or videoblogger, there are all kinds of things you don’t know about Europe. What you *COULD* be doing is moving your stuff into a huge market of mobile audio listeners. People here use their cells to play MP3s. You have a HUGE chance at working into a new universe of people that would probably love your show.
Other Stuff I Learned
The unconference model — open-faced learning, participation, people interacting, everyone on the same stage– is the killer app. People here are shaking hands and spending time getting to know each other. They’re mixing networking with learning. They’re building all kinds of new and exciting relationships. This is where stuff is happening.
If You’re NOT Into Podcasting or New Media
You can take this model and make it work for you. Building an unconference is a formula. Get a community of people. Find a venue. Get food sponsored. Load up on free wifi. And set people loose on the notion that THEY are the organizers, THEY are the content, THEY are who matters.
Sponsors? Sure. Perfect! Exhibitors? I love the idea, because if you can get the RIGHT exhibitors, people who your unconference audience will feel an affinity and a relationship with, that’s a good thing for both folks, right?
More as I go along. I am so excited, so energized. This has been the best.
IF YOU’RE FROM SWEDEN
And you’re not here, swing by PodCamp Europe. We’re here til the 14th.
