How I Got Twitter to Answer Back

pass it on Friends were asking me how I set up BroganTweets to display people’s answers to my ubiquitous Twitter questions. My answer, as with all things, is that friends helped me figure it out. Here’s how I put it all together. There’s not a lot of magic here, but maybe you’ll find something useful out of this little “how to” bit.

Use Terraminds.com to Search

I went to TerraMinds.com and entered “@chrisbrogan” and “Brogan” for search terms. I copied the RSS feed output from that search.

Use Tumblr to Aggregate the Search

I use an account at Tumblr to add the feed to a site. I think I *could* skip this step, but I like having a web-viewable account for these answers, too.

Use TwitterFeed.com to Post to Twitter

I made a new Twitter account, BroganTweets. I then went to TwitterFeed.com to port my RSS feed from Tumblr through the BroganTweets Twitter user.

Then YOU Follow BroganTweets

From your Twitter account, go to http://twitter.com/brogantweets , and click Follow, or from your SMS device, send ” Follow brogantweets” to 40404.

Pow. You’re now part of the knowledge that I get when I ask my questions.

unrelated: you might want to optimise your site for non-iphone mobile users, ~200 kb and its page setup don’t lend themselves to an easy read on my n73. cheers, @cervus

It’s a pretty good idea, although it could do with so tweeking in twitterfeed. It’s still a little “buggy”.

The only problem is that I was following your tumblr account which when you changed it to just being @chrisbrogan stuff filled up my tumblr dashboard with 4 pages of spam before I could see what my other tumblr friends were even up too.

I would recommend making a new tumblr account for this type of thing, if you have followers. Or t least giving your tumblr friends a heads up for the new prolific content that is going to be generated.

I wonder if you couldn’t use Twitter’s track feature to remove the TerraMinds.com and TwitterFeed.com segments. This might result in a faster, more robust solution.

Thanks for contributing so much to the social tech space.
