I Love Tim Sanders

The other day, I got the nicest call from Tim Sanders. He wanted to talk for 15 minutes, but mostly, he wanted to help. He gave me TONS of advice, all of it useful, some referrals for big opportunities, and just a TON of good information. Thing is, he also taught me a lesson that I want to share with you:

This is so inspiring that I'm sending my son a link and suggesting he watch it. You have the soul of a great teacher.

Tim Sanders is awesome… Got to work with him for his book Love is the Killer App and he's just great! (good book too!)

    Chris,

That is a great story! Thank you for sharing. I read Tim's book several years ago and have tried to follow his “give first” philosophy, but I know that I and in fact probably all of us get caught up in the “what can I do for you so you'll do something for me” game way too often. Even when we consiously think that we're creating an equitable exchange so often we aren't.

The best we can do is to follow his example and do our research and approach people with specific ways that we can help them without expecting anyything in return. That will always get us further and help us build relationships where people WANT to help us in return without us having to ask.

Now I need to go find my copy of the book and re-read it,

    Thanks,

    Doug

    Hi Chris,

It was great seeing you give this wonderful (and well deserved) recognition to Tim. He's one of the folks I most like in the world! He doesn't know me from Adam, we've never worked together, but I know him and relate to him very much. I wasn't able to get to him the last time he was in Toronto to chat but if the chance comes up again, I'll try harder.

People like Tim and yourself inspire me to keep going even though there are many times when it would be a whole lot easier to quit. So thank you for that. Without the two of you keeping me going, I might not have lasted this long! If it makes you feel any better, last week was a week from hell for me too! Of course, today is a brand new day and you just never know what might happen next.

Watching your video was a great start to the day though and I appreciate the kickstart to my faith and am wearing a smile.

    Chris,
I'm glad you did a video instead of just writing about what you learned from Tim.
I haven't read Tim's book but I'm going to look for it now.

Thank you for all your blogs. You have touched and inspired me.
Please continue doing what you are doing.

In my experiences with Tim, however limited they may have been, I'd have to agree 100%. He always seems genuine and sincere but more than that alone, he's equipped. This post does bring up a phenomenal point. Helping others out of a genuine desire to help, not because of what they can eventually do for you but because of what you can do for them. Nothing more. We need more of that. Less people sucking up just to ultimately push their agenda but more authentic contributions. More deposits, less withdrawals.

Not to be a cynic Chris, but I think that everyone you deal with knows that if they treat you right and show you some value, that you'll talk about it on multiple platforms. (Which can certainly be valuable to them.)
Something to think about. You've built a following based on valuable information and trustworthy interactions, with a history of paying it forward. You may be the “target” of everyone's best effort.
Not to be negative, just trying to play devil's advocate!

It is so great to see a “what can I do for you?” message getting so much traction. Imagine if the world actually worked that way?

Shouldn't that be the goal we all work towards?

Now of to Amazon to purchase Tim's book!

    Thanks, Chris, for the post!

Really cool video, Chris. Appreciate you sharing your conversation & Tim's approach. Great learning opportunity that resonates with everything you encourage others to do as well.

I've really appreciated Tim's most recent book, “Saving the World at Work”, which is also in keeping with being “other-centered”. He's relaunching the book & there's more good stuff at http://www.savingtheworld.net/.

What Tim did, is the best way to be helpful to people (at least in my humble opinion).

I haven't met Tim Sanders, but I'm going to keep my eyes open for him from now on. He sounds like good people.

I will play flip side of @swhdancey 's devil, and say that perhaps we tend to give our best effort when interacting with people like you is because we all have intuition. We all see/sense/feel when a human is doing their best to deal with us fairly, respectfully and with a gentle spirit. That's what I've always gotten from you, and I think most people give what they get. Of course, my nickname in high school was Pollyanna, so take it for what it's worth.:)

I like how Dr Wayne Dyer puts it: “I’ve just been out there doing what seems to make the most sense to me and letting go of the outcome.” Giving without expectation is powerful.

I just saw this video post about Tim Sanders and it's so great to see someone who follows through on what they preach. Tim's book, Love is the Killer App left an indelible impression on me when I read it years ago and now hearing this story of his reaching out just to be helpful is inspiring to me in so many ways. Imagine the world if we all just did a little something to help out others with no expectations of anything in return…

Thanks for reminding me about Tim Sanders. I remember reading his book back when it was first published and thinking it was incredible. You've inspired me to dig it out and read it again.

Thanks for your book as well. You had my highlighter working overtime.

Thank you Chris for reminding us what it's all about. You're right, writing about your experience with Tim would not have come out as well as your personal video. I love human interaction where you can listen and feel the person's voice and emotions. If someone can figure out how to make copy express these emotions they would be on to something.

    Wow. Wow. Wow.

Chris, I want to be like Tim Sanders too.

When I say, “How can I help?” I mean it–no strings. You’ve already helped me in many ways, so if I could think of anything I’d do it in a nanosec. But I think you’re pretty dang perfect. Okay, I could be a cheerleader. If you ever need help with designing courses, writing curriculum–I’m pretty good at that. Also, if you ever need a really untechy person to test things on–that’s me. So look in the mirror and smile and know you have spread good will to others.
