Inc Magazine- A Video Review

February 20, 2009 · Comments

I was on a plane the other day, and I opened up a copy of Inc magazine, and was blown away by how much I liked it. You knew that it’s put out by the same folks who do FastCompany, right? Well, I think the sensibilities at Mansueto Ventures have bled together, because this magazine ROCKED. Here’s a video review:

  • Chris,

Inc. magazine is essential reading for anyone running a small business. I have been a subscriber since 1992 and it has provided a continuing education to me that has been invaluable.

  • Chris,

Inc magazine is my "go to" choice for ANY plane ride. Every issue is jam packed with so many ideas and inspirational stories. With that said, I DO NOT recommend it if you're going on vacation -because you will literally run off the plane with about 15 new ideas you want to implement. Choose it for "return plane ride" reading!
  • I've loved stuff that Fast Company and Inc. has put out. Great to see your endorsement!
  • Agreed, agreed, agreed! Inc is probably my favorite magazine, and it's pretty exciting to finally be in it. They have a great website too, filled with great articles from even their current magazine. These people know how to run a good business!

CB - As always, good to know. Is this the mag that scopes out and utilizes top- knotch freelancers?
  • Inc. is indeed fantastic and has even gotten better in the past year or so. Nice review, Chris.
  • I've had a subscription to both Inc and Fast Company for the last year, both are phenomenal, inspiring and informational. They are quite simply, the best entrepreneurial content I have found in print. I look forward to each issue.
  • I'm still sad that Business 2.0 is gone. Inc. is one of my "must-read" magazines as well (along with Fast Company, Wired and The Economist). Another magazine no one mentioned, but I love is Technology Review published by MIT. It only comes out 6 times a year but has also become one of my top choices.
  • Chris, I just heard the other day that you are a celebrity and that is before I knew anything about the kmart deal. Seriously, the uproar sounds like a joke. Are you up to no good again? As for mags, I'm big on HBR rather than Inc, but then again I don't live in Boston so I guess that makes me a voyeur.
  • Loved reading "And the Money Comes Rolling In" in Inc Magazine. I'd be happy if some just dripped in... As for my favorite magazines, I have loved Cowboys & Indians Magazine for years. Has a Robb Report feel with a very Western flair (it's not what you think). BTW, it's a H....cious inspiration.
  • hey Chris,
Thanks for the review! I've passed Inc a few times on the racks but I never stopped to look at it. I definitely enjoy Fast Company so I'll check this one out. Plus, $10 subscription is hard to say turn down :)
  • Chris,

Thanks for the video review. I do not currently read Inc., so I'll have to pick up a copy today at B&N. It would probably be refreshing to read something that I can hold in my hands. I wonder how long it will be before magazines and newspapers completely disappear...

    Thanks so much!
  • I've been following Inc. Magazine ever since my 5 star review in it 'way back when. I remember when the Inc. Discussion boards were really a tremendous community - lots of great business ideas shared there.

    Ah, memories.....
  • Good review I'm definitely interested although I've never heard of this magazine before.
  • I really really like Wired magazine. Chris mentioned three, Fast Company, Wired, and Inc. These are all very big in the web community.

I prefer reading Wired online occassionally. For my magazine reading, I am on a routing list at work, they send a specific set of magazines. Mine consists of Searcher, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, The New York Times Book Review, Kirkus Reviews, and Booklist. I also read the New York Review of Books on occassion. Online I read http://www.locusmag.com which is the professional magazine for science fiction, http://www.bookweb.org -- Bookselling This Week from the American Booksellers Association. It is a lot.
  • It has always been a great magazine. Back in the early days, even before the dot.com start-ups and the wave of venture capital, it provided very valuable info to those in the high growth mode.
  • Inc magazine is always been a great magazine. I reagularly read it and find great stuff on that. Thanks for the video review mate.
  • I have to disagree. I like the new design, but Inc. doesn't make my reading list. I really miss Business 2.0.
  • Hmmm... I believe i've read it before... I love entrepreneur magazine! i get it and guy does have some great stuff... this is true! fast company is a good one too! great stuff man! I should be checking it out!
That's cool your friend jessica is in it! can't say i've had that happen yet!
  • I have read Inc. Magazine since I first found it in college in 1989. It's a great read and always full of inspirational and informative articles. I still hold out my dream of one day of having my mug on the front cover. Some day!

    Great review as always.

    Ripple On!!!

  • I seem to have problem opening the video review with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome... Didn't manage to see it. :(

But I am a big fan of Fast Company. I have just subscribed to their magazine some time last few months ago. Really interesting articles inside!

Haven't got the chance to see Inc. magazine yet though...
  • Inc. is a great Mag. I'm not subscribed but generally catch each issue at barnes & noble.

I didn't know it was the same publishers as fast company another great mag that I read. I also get entrepreneur mag which I am taking a liking to but there's a lot of articles I don't read compared to Inc where I read just about all of it.

Still have never seen the point to Wired mag. I pick up an issue here and there because so many people like it but just doesn't do anything for me.
  • I love Inc. magazine! Every month, I drink it like a strawberry-banana smoothie... full of nutrients and so tasty on the way down!
  • Erika Owens
Love this magazine! you really do learn a lot.
  • I discovered Inc. about three months ago on my way to Hawaii. Seems like airports are where most folks pick up the mag. Great story about the clothing company Echo in this months edition. Not only do they present good content, it also offers a little motivation.

  • Good stuff. I read Inc, Fast Company and occasionally Rolling Stone to keep up with what's happening in the music world.
  • Chris - I still love reading magazines - you get a totally different vibe from them. Hey and thanks for the Entrepreneur mention, I've been getting Inc for 20 years and still find time to read it every month.
  • I LOVE Inc.! It is definitely my favorite mag. My other must reads are - Fast company, Entrepreneur, and Harvard Business Review. As a college student , I find Inc to be very inspiring and refreshing. It always sparks my thoughts and ideas. I look forward to reading Inc every month and often refer back to my old issues when I have some free time.

Excellent magazine to learn what others are doing. Not just the practices of a specific business, also the approach and mindset they follow. Highly recommended. Chris i really appreciate your review abt this book too..
