iPhone versus BlackBerry

I happen to use the BlackBerry Pearl, and won’t be getting an iPhone soon. But this is a good example of the phone’s capabilities:

As a father of a girl Blackberry’s age, I loved this video and wish I had shot it. But the enjoyment far outweighed any media envy.

-I wanted to comment on a past blog you wrote on how it’s okay to express when you’re feeling down on your blog. First off, I loved the Superheroes analogy and agree that Batman is a fairly melancholy guy. But we still want him around if the Joker is coming our way.

To further extend the analogy, I wanted to point out that crisis and how we handle it demonstrate our true character. One of the reasons I appreciate Chris and this blog so much is that Chris is real. He swears, tells us when he’s tired, and is edifying without being a butt-kisser. These are very hard balances to maintain.

Two things I think people forget about real friends/voices in our lives – sometimes you need to express depth beyond snack-sized witticisms or comments about goings on online or anywhere else. This allows you to really connect with someone as you know you can trust them to hang out with you even when you’re not particularly funny or interesting.

Blogging is hard. It’s like writing a press release every day in an environment that oftentimes rewards snarkiness over depth. It’s easy to be snarky as you’re commenting/slamming someone else’s original thoughts. Chris’ prosaic musings read like a gritty novel or a Tom Waits song. That’s a blog I want to come back to on a daily basis. I’ve got enough news outlets telling me about the newest gadget or who’s buying who. Chris delivers soul-bytes.

Anyway, wanted to post that here as his audio from a few days ago is really worth listening to if you missed it. Now I just have to content with my lack of time for blogging in the first place!

Chris, I found the same video here http://www.metacafe.com/watch/702937/the_iphone_and_the_blackberry/

you may want to embed the MetaCafe Version instead of the Youtube version because its better quality.
