My Morning in Bed with Cali Lewis

October 29, 2009 · Comments

So, the other day, I got in bed with Cali Lewis from GeekBrief.tv . Yep. It had to happen. If you can’t see the video below, click here. We talk about trust, loyalty, and several other things.

(Notes: I actually do have two arms. One is hidden behind the pillow. Also, listen for the weird clicking sound, and watch the blooper at the end to find out what that’s all about.)

Nice post as usual . I am regular reader of your blog. Just continue writing this kind of post. I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks.

  • Hey Cali, this has probably been asked to you before, but why don’t you have your show on YouTube with your own channel? It would bring you much, much, more -and also well earned- views, and you can still have this site linked to in the description with a “for more” incentive.
  • Chris and Cali together? Way too much for me to handle :)
  • addytseng
    Chris, thanks.

Something finally hit home today for me when you described the response to your tweet about a failed car service. Marketing isn't about telling people what you do. It is listening for needs you can solve, and responding at the time of need. That IS when the customer is most responsive too.

So what if people do not express those needs - because they are not articulate, maybe it's private, or they may not even know they exist?
(As for the latter....I always felt a little weird about convincing customers they have a need when they don't.)
That aside, how do you get people to express their needs?
  • You lucky one :)

Original to make interview in bed :)
  • addytseng
Yes, very original. Again, it's brilliant, Chris.

    Chris,

I really enjoyed the part of the video where you talked about reciprocity. It is such a great practice to keep in the conscious mind when out on the social web. I'm a big fan of always finding ways to create value and this is definitely one of them. Great post!

  • In the blooper... Is that dog tags, or... Perhaps a USB drive? I'm not sure which one would be more intense, or in your particular idiom.

  • Who is not going to click on that link? I like the idea of being the elbow. I've got my Trust Agents book in the mail now- can't wait!
  • addytseng
I agree. I like the elbow analogy too. Brilliant.
  • Very clickworthy title Chris. ha ha
  • Golly. Great points, and the "Cali Lewis in bed with..." schtick is brilliant. But having been there, was that awkward? I suppose soft lights and candles wouldn't have made it LESS awkward....
  • Interesting perspective on loyalty - the question businesses need to answer is: "Is the business loyal to the customer, or is the customer loyal to the business?" If it's only the second, and the business doesn't reciprocate, they'll lose the customer sooner or later.

New title: "Cali's morning in bed with Turd Head"
  • Cali is right. Hotel Monaco rocks. Love it!
  • I agree that companies need to get back to seeing people as people rather than numbers. It's sad though that I have to say "get back to," but it's it the truth.
  • Like linkbaiting title, Brogan :)
