My Offer on Third Tribe

I just put up an offer on Third Tribe Marketing: ask me almost any business question and I’ll do my best to answer it in the next couple of days.

It costs $47 to join Third Tribes. I charge approximately 466 times that for a day of my time. So, the way I look at it, if you join the Third Tribe, and ask me the question, I’ll save you plenty of loot. Also, when you’re done with that gimmick, you’ll realize that there are over 2000 really smart people there who know more than me, and who can also help you out with Internet marketing questions.

What say you?

Now THIS could get interesting! Can't wait to see this take shape, talk about a brainstorming session.

  • http://twitter.com/davethackeray Dave Thackeray

Chris, you have a powerful and persuasive manner that never fails to ignite your audience. I had no motivation whatsoever to join the Tribe and on the basis of your sound mind I have finger poised over the big, bright, shiny green button!

And thanks so much for vicariously putting one of my big projects on ice. I now have to spend a few hours thinking of a killer question for you that'll turbocharge my business. Worth $47? You bet!

  • http://JimRaffel.com/ Jim Raffel

I'm headed over right now and my question is going to be about Disqus comments vs. WordPress built-in (figured I'd go easy on you).

  • aaronbihari

Brilliant, thank you Chris! Third Tribe is an incredibly vibrant community full of intelligent & thoughtful people. It's only a month old, but feels like it's been around a lot longer. Kudos,

  • John

You charge $21,902 for a day of your time?!

  • Ann Onymous

    You charge $22,000 a day?

  • http://blog.adsdevshop.com Robert Dempsey

I'm a very happy member of Third Tribe Marketing and am getting a ton of value out of it, mainly from seeing the Q&A of the members. I wish I had a question for you Chris, but I get most of the answers from your blog and books, so I'll stick to those.

For the rest though, take advantage of this!

  • http://chrisbrogan.com Chris Brogan

    Sure do.

  • http://chrisbrogan.com Chris Brogan

22K, but you have to round up.

  • http://loszieglerencanada.com/ Guillermo

it sounds like the change of business models. from the free comments in the blog where I was supposed to interact with the editor, you are moving to a payed model where the user is charged a fee for having the pleasure of interacting with you and of course where I may find your more interesting posts… Should I unsubscribe from this blog then? It looks like you will not post your best thoughts here anymore!

I'll keep an eye on that, because it looks like it's where the wave goes.

  • http://www.manifestbozeman.com/ Philip Downer

Now I'm curious as to what service, advice, counseling or other consultation could be worth $22K.

Also, does that person get your full 24 hours time, or just a standard 8-hour work day?

  • http://twitter.com/ridgelyjohnson ridgely johnson

I say Third Tribe's “claim to fame” will no doubt be the eagerness with which members respond to help one another attain their goals- Chris is one such member.

  • http://brian23.com Brian

I say there are a lot of people who just plugged 47×466 into their calculators out of curiosity.

  • http://twitter.com/havepack Jeff Patch

I've never thought that blogs were a place that people could contact a professional and ask for free advice Guillermo. Am I missing something? Chris shares a lot on his blog but that doesn't mean his expertise is at your disposal, which he is offering here.

  • http://copyblogger.com/ Brian Clark

Many keynote speakers get $20K just for a 45 minute speech. $22k for a full day of corporate consulting is nothing.

  • http://happyandblue2.ca Happy and Blue 2

Chris does have a contact form on his site here.

I understand Guillermo's point but I don't think it's valid. This site gives lots of free information and the offer is to answer a specific question on a forum.

The answer Chris is offering isn't free though. It will cost you $564 to belong to the forum for a year. Far less than his normal $22,000/day charge but significant none the less.

  • http://www.virtualitassistants.com/ Amber Whitener

Wow! Smart strategy Chris! :D Good luck!

  • http://chrisbrogan.com Chris Brogan

They don't get my 24 hours, no. What's worth it? I help companies avoid spending 10x that on bad advice, and I help them find streams of revenue, and I help them build marketing that works differently than the mainstream. You can see more at New Marketing Labs

  • http://chrisbrogan.com Chris Brogan

I comment on here plenty. You can still get my information for free here on this blog. You don't HAVE to pay anything. You haven't to date. Keep riding along. No worries to me. : ) This is an offer to those who want more directed help.

everyone who is offended that there is now a different model of help for a price
everyone who is offended by the amount he charges a company to basically make them more successful
    this isn't little league folks
take your ball and go home if you want

get your head out of your assess and go make money if that's why you're bitter
    or go start a commune
but stop spending time bitching and moaning about some other person's success

I say that you've already answered any possible question I could have, here, for free.

  • http://socialassimilation.com/ Andrew J. Gay

    Chris,

Wow, I am shocked at the negative feedback that this post generated. I must say, you have a neat way to get your audience involved though, good or bad. Come on people, what would you say if you were told you had to do even a third of your job for free?

Chris, and many other bloggers/consultants GIVE plenty in the social sphere, and if you go through much of what Chris says here and elsewhere online, the helpful information that is offered for FREE far outweighs the amount of plugs and ads that he puts out. Seriously people, go easy, be appreciative, and look to the point Chris is trying to make. I am a member of Third Tribe, it is an invaluable resource but of course you don't have to join. But stop being so flippant about what you are and have been getting for free for all of this time!

I for one appreciate what you do for the online community Chris, both the FREE stuff you do here and the pay-for stuff you do on Third Tribe and elsewhere.

Everything can't be free guys and gals. Go ahead, start your own blog, see what kind of time and dedication it takes, walk in someone elses shoes. Remember the 80/20 rule? Chris makes (probably more) than 80% of his money doing 20% of his work, and if you read his blog or his twitter posts you will find that Chris doesn't hold his special secrets back, he shares his thoughts and insights.

    Thanks Chris!

  • davevandewalle

I'm with Andrew here. Plus, any social media expert, guru, ninja or rockstar should value their time appropriately.

Only objection – it ain't 80/20 anymore. More like 95/5.

  • jasoncrouch

Well, this is certainly an intriguing proposition. I am a member of Third Tribe (great stuff so far, by the way). I figured for the intro price it was hard to go wrong, considering I pay way more than that each month for books. :)

This is much like winning the lottery – didn't expect to have this opportunity. I may need to pitch a question. Now, I just need to decide what to ask.

  • David Siteman Garland

Great point, Brian. I was about to post it.

Time is the most valuable asset you have. And ideas.

Combine them and people will pay for ideas and time.

Are you serious? You've a marketing mastermind and you're going to waste $50 to ask him about which is the best commenting system? That's like meeting the president and asking him to help you fix your toaster.

  • http://ksstorms1105.wordpress.com/ KyleS.

Ha! Got that right! When I came up with $21,902 I wondered why Chris didn't just charge $22K. I'm glad he cleared that up! :) Love reading his blog though-I think I'm going to go ahead and join.

  • http://www.hware.com Brenda Horton

I second that! There are a lot of smart people in Third Tribe! Hope to meet some of you at SWSX! Looking forward to connecting face-to-face!

I must be playing the wrong game, that's amazing to me.

What if you don't have a product but you'd like to learn what online opportunities are out there? Would a Third Tribe membership be useful to guide you or is there something else you should try first?

  • http://www.webconsuls.com/blog Judy Helfand

You made a few people think with this post. Not quite as many as with your Anywhen Manifesto. You have value and you are generous. You know why? Because you love what you do. Let's not forget Twain's observation in 1889…”The law of work does seem utterly unfair–but there it is, and nothing can change it: the higher the pay in enjoyment the worker gets out of it, the higher shall be his pay in cash, also.”
    Enjoy Bogota!

  • John

I'm in the wrong game too.

  • http://johnmclachlan.ca/ John McLachlan

Chris, sorry for my rather odd comment about a “pitch.”

I think we can blame this on me and my perception because I feel like most places I've visited recently (online blogs) I've been “pitched” a product to buy, and I was just having a temporary overload when I came to read your blog today. I know you are genuine with your suggestion to join the Third Tribe and I don't doubt for a moment it's great value. Also, you give so much here and are open and show a vulnerable side, which I think is great.

I can't quite explain it, but I just felt like I'd be pitched to. For some reason, today, I interpreted your push to have people join as being a pitch and that disappointed me. It felt cheesy to me. But, that's my problem.

I'm just sharing how it came across to me.

Thanks for listening and thanks for replying.

  • http://nathanhangen.com/blog Nathan Hangen

I wouldn't even dignify that with a response Chris. We know you better than that.

  • http://nathanhangen.com/blog Nathan Hangen

Chris, you forgot the most important point…I'm in there too.

  • http://nathanhangen.com/blog Nathan Hangen

If I worked for a Fortune 100, I'd probably pay you that just to speak to my employees and hang out a bit…chump change compared to what they pay for other stuff.

People forget that there's a huge difference in what you can ask for when you choose the right clients.

  • http://twitter.com/BenySchonfeld Beny Schonfeld

The way I see it… if Chris charges $22K for a day's worth of consulting (let's say 10 hour days):

    - Then a blog post here (free) is a gift to us of anywhere between $1100 to $6600 (say a 1/2 to 3 hours to write a good post? I'm sure sometimes it's more)
    - And every time he comments or replies below (or above) it costs him about $36 and change per second. Yes, per second. Right out of his pocket.

    So I'd say he's pretty generous…

Stop worrying about what he makes, and focus on how to improve your knowledge and skills so you can be of greater value to your clients. At that point you may be able to ask your customer for a signed blank check, and he/she might just give it to you without a second thought.

Personally I'm glad you did dignify the comment with a response.

And knowing what you charge for information helps point out how valuable the free information on this site actually is.
