Word of Mouth, has is and always will be one of the most important and vital components of any marketing campaigns, whether online or off. This is where providing quality and standing behind your stuff is really crucial. Word of Mouth can make you and very easily break you.

I think word of mouth marketing has become more popular BECAUSE of the social networks and tools available to me. My clients 10 years ago would have been almost entirely based in Ottawa and maybe the surrounding areas (stretching as far as Kingston if I'm lucky).

But using the Internet, my client base stretches much farther now. For example, I have a client in Arizona that I literally met in a chat room. We were both listening to the same interview that YOU were doing and now we are working on an amazing project together. My husband and I are shooting a documentary in Cincinnati in a couple of weeks because of people he met online. I have other clients in Southern Ontario and Belleville, Ontario that came to us entirely through word of mouth, and via the Internet.

What's important is to know HOW to engage people across these channels. How to solicit word of mouth marketing without coming across as desperate or annoying. That's key.

Strategies like the ones Andy Sernowitz passes on are tremendously important to helping us learn how to create opportunites. Thanks for sharing this!

WOM, word-of-mouth, it's growing. It's growing because all else fails, all else is non-sustainable, and because the desires to help, to connect, are universal and more deliciously refreshing when found in a business these days.

And there's lots of upside for its expression, too.

PS: Becky McCray at www.smallbizsurvival.com...she told me about your post here. There it is. Word-of-mouth...in action...right here in River City...
