Perhaps the best part of working on the Video on the Net conference is finding people who’ve attended, who left feeling excited about the event, and who are looking to come back and attend again. I just had a great call with Mary from the Mass Film Office, and it was full of excitement. I’m happy to report that she wasn’t the first person that had something good to say about the show.
What’s exciting to me is that I had something to do with it. I found the right people (or at least a small subset of the right people – because as my friends remind me all the time, I can’t fit everyone into the show that I wish). We had the right conversations. The best people helped me reach out and get amazing people to speak. Yeah, it’s a big team effort. There’s tons of support, and there are lots of people behind the scenes making it happen.
I’m looking forward to our fall event in Boston. The speakers are a mix of media producers, technology giants, investors, and advertisers. I’m hoping that everyone who comes feels it’s helpful, that they get a better view of the larger space of Internet video, and about media, film, and broadcasting. I’m excited that we’ve got some videobloggers into the program yet again, speaking from the perspective of independent creators.
In short, I guess I’m just saying that I’m glad I do what I do, and that I enjoy putting together this show. As the months move on, we’ll see where everything goes, but right now, I’m talking to people about Video on the Net and it’s getting exciting.
One thing I’m looking forward to seeing: Blake Lewin from Turner talking about how Turner started introducing gaming into their strategy to capture some of the churn away from TV. (My words, not his.) Other than that? I’m just happy to see my friends again. It’s nice to have community around an event.
