PodCamp Pittsburgh After the Fact

Justin Kownacki of Something to be Desired and his fine team of helpers pulled it off in style. The event knows as PodCamp Pittsburgh was a raving success as far as I’m concerned. From the first pre-pre event meal at a little Mexican hole in the wall to the official meet and greet at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, to the actual PodCamp sessions, this went well.

Community Building The sessions were an interesting mix (check them out here) of video and audio, super-expert to newbie. For instance, I ran a session asking people to teach me Final Cut Pro. Thankfully, David Kowarsky of Focus (and a colleague at Pulver.com), was there to help with that session. It was very well balanced.

Justin Most Days One thing that PodCamp Pittsburgh did well that I hope to learn from is that PodCamp Pittsburgh pushed hard for feedback from the start. They built their prize giveaways back into the feedback loop. Further, Justin pushed hard for people to get in touch with the continuing conversation on the wiki. He wants the information to move forward, from one Camp to the next.

Speaking of which, the very next PodCamp is PodCamp West in San Francisco this next coming weekend. Are you going? I can’t make it personally, but Justin, Erik, Rachel, Andy, Sarah, and a dozen or so more volunteers proved that you don’t need Chris Brogan and Christopher S. Penn to run a PodCamp. I’ll sit this one out, and prove that theory out even a little further.

But you should go, and as we get sessions posted online from the Pittsburgh event, you’ll be able to come and see it. Thanks for supporting PodCamp Pittsburgh.

I can’t wait to see my family again. Very much. I miss them.

Another post coming soon about affogato, and *PLENTY* of media from the event to work through.

I’m in the lobby of the Wyndham Garden hotel with Michael Bailey of MobaSoft, and he’s been telling me about his future plans for 30 minutes nonstop with all the passion of a man who’s going to get it done. “Come Hell or high water,” he tells me, “I’m not giving up. This will be done.”

    Chris;

Thanks so much for inspiring the idea of PodCamp and helping those of us in the new media space find ahome for our scattered, passionate and disruptive thoughts. May we all continue to learn together and grow together as this medium explodes.

    Now put your pants on.

CBro – thanks for not running out of the lobby while I was rambling on and on and on about my vision.

By the way, while we were sitting there, we also remarked about how some of the conversations of PodCamp were about this wave that we’re all riding on – then it occured to me that we are not riding on the wave at all – we are the makers of the wave. I tried to explain it like when a fighter jet would fly close to the ocean – as it past quickly, the after effect was the wave being pulled up out of the ocean – new media is that fighter jet.

The after effects of our actions should be a giant wave which others will have a chance to ride.

So, if it feels like you are floundering or following (which for me is quite often) just keep in mind that you ARE far ahead of others in this new space. The fact that you’ve attended PodCamp proves that point, I think.

To borrow the now famous words of Chris Brogan, I love you all, but as a collective, not individually, as that would just be too strange…

    :-)

I keep hearing about PodCamps on the coasts–any chance of a midwest PodCamp? Like, in Chicago? [eyes others hopefully]

    Heidi,

July 27-29, 2009 – Not Chicago, but Kansas City, MO – will that work out for you?
