Put Your Skills to Use

I’m inspired by Chris Kieff’s idea to Make a Facebook Page for someone. His point is that you know how to do it, and people you know (or are related to) could use your help. Not just for money, but because you’re a nice person, and the help would do them good. Your church, your scout group, your grandmother. Whoever needs it. I like this idea a lot.

Want to add to it?

If you’re out of work, figure out something helpful to do as a project for others. Figure out if there were other paths you might want to try that you can “pretend” to try until your next big gig gets going on.

Who could you help with what you know?

Mmmm, December’s a great time to be helpful. So’s January.

I love the Idea Chris, I support it 100%.

The last October, I began helping to my unemployed friends on how to create a social presence and all about socialnetworking. – Also, I'm trying to show them all I know about job hunting – in order to develop skills they may implement at the time to look for a job, improve their resume or gain extra knowledge. It has been a very positive activity also for me because, I've got insights and approaches I thought I was never going to find inside that context.

I work every weekend as sports monitor for children between entally handicapped 6 and 16 and I've to admit in totally hooked!
I wonder what would happen if people put their skills to serve the neediest, or just the people around you…

It's always great when people find ways to help each other in the “real world”. The Internet should facilitate such connections.

I am working on this project towards this precise goal. http://www.karmawish.com

Thanks for your posts Chris. I am learning a lot from you.

Oh man! Being Helpful during the holidays is what's it all about. For me, I'm around family for the next 2 weeks solid. They always need (or could use) help with all things technology (and some times with house work).

Having a generous heart and an outlook on life that is geared towards helping others is, in my mind, the right way to live – no matter what day it is. Tough to do all the time, but the right thing to do none the less.

    Hi,
Its really an interesting idea.Different from the Facebook user profile pages, the Facebook business page application is a virtual method utilizing Internet marketing methods to get the word out about products and services.Even better, when users update their Facebook pages, in most cases, these changes are distributed via Facebook news Feeds and mini Feeds.

This reminds me of the choices: 1) teach them to fish, versus 2) give them a fish. It's great to give someone or some cause a little love by creating a FB page. It's great to teach them how to do it so 1) they are really empowered and 2) they don't keep calling you for help and 3) they can pay it forward. To do it or to teach it – not really the point. Doing something for someone is a really good way to start the year, the quarter or even every day. What a thought.

This inspires the question: Give a fish or teach to fish? It's a good thing to give a little love to someone or some cause by creating FB page. You might consider teaching the person or organization how to do it, which has these benefits. 1) They are empowered, 2) they don't call you for help updating it and 3) they can pay your good deed forward. In any case, what a great way to start of the year, the quarter, or the day: helping someone.

To volunteering in my church, namely general marketing functions to maintain your website to start a website, set up the sermon podcasts redesign project lead, a young Facebook page, ect set. A year later, I was a full-blown marketing consulting business that includes other churches in the area. All my volunteer activities started by word of mouth. I learned about the non-profit organizations, to help my church put skills to work and created a new career. It is giving people a true testimony to power following a heart.

I am out of work and I know my sons 1st grade teacher needs some classroom help during the day. Maybe I need to get off of my butt and lend a hand while I am unemployed. Thanks for this kick in the butt Chris.

Yup I agree with that passage. I do made a page for my church mate because I really appreciate them a lot. In this page we use to interact online.
