Search Engine Optimization

I found a few references that might be useful to you. The first two are in PDF format, so they’ll possibly ask you to download them. They belong to Google, so I’ll presume they’re clean.

Website Grader from Hubspot. This tool is a really great way of seeing how you stand with typical SEO and social engagement scoring. Start here.

Google Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide (pdf). You can use this to understand the basics behind the scenes on how search engines like Google see your website or blog.

Google’s SEO Report Card (pdf) – Useful for knowing what Google sees when they look at your site. A lot of what’s covered in here is measured by the Website Grader tool mentioned above.

WordPress SEO. If you’re using WordPress for your website or blog, this is a really useful resource. It’ll take a while to pore through, but you’ll find some value in it, for sure. My friend, Yoast, also has a WordPress SEO plugin that you might find useful.

I also use Scribe (affiliate link) to help me with my SEO on this site.

Hopefully this is helpful to you.

I love Hubspot’s Website Grader and have used it a lot to learn what changes I need to make in my site. It’s been fun to watch those numbers improve.

The WordPress SEO plug-in looks cool, and I’ve been reading great user reviews on it lately. Enough to make me want to switch over to WP, I think 2011 will be the year.

Thanks for the links. I’ve used website grader in the past and always found it useful. Your article was a good reminder to do a little “check up”. It is always helpful to see how I am improving over time.

I’m going to give Yoast’s WordPress SEO plug-in a try. It looks much more flexible and cleaner than the “All in one SEO” plug-in. Thanks for the heads up!

Great stuff Chris, as always. I use websitegrader on an almost daily basis and the rest of them are terrific. I always say that I don’t need to go back to school for a degree in Marketing – YOU are my institution of higher learning.

I found some of the videos of Matt Cutts on Youtube useful. He is their outgoing and relaxed SEO expert. Things like spiders made more sense when he explained it. Actually found it all SEO concepts alot easier to understand.

    Hope that helps someone

I assume as he works at Google this would help you rank high on Google.

Thanks Chris. I learned a lot just by accessing the website grader and downloading the pdf files from Google. It pays to know about SEO and not just rely on paid hands.

    Thanks again for this article.

I have just seen a really nice article on Mashable about the Yoast WordPress SEO Program yesterday that remind me this blog post. I am just curious to know more about Genesis Framework. Do you really need an additional SEO Plugin if you are using Genesis or is it really optimized in a way that you don’t need to add anything ? (except maybe scribe)

Those resources are really helpful to everyone.. Thanks for giving this pdf format also.. Excellent..
