Slag

I’m reading a few other blogs (non-fitness related) and it’s amazing to me what one can REALLY accomplish if they make this a publishing platform instead of just a place to jot thoughts. Not that the other method is good or bad, but when I read all those other journals (they were mostly journals about technology), I thought… hmm, I might want to reconsider the product I’m putting out here.

And then thoughts just spiraled from there.

Why the hell should I be journaling my fitness efforts? What’s the real value? I know what my experiences are. I’m keeping paper records. So, it’s not for my own good. But what’s the readership about? Who’s reading… but more so.. WHY?

When I read those technical journals, I’m reading BECAUSE I want to be informed about things people are finding out through their experiences, through scouring news sources I don’t normally read, etc. I’m using their sites to be informed about something where I have interest.

The pieces are small, succinct, and offer me links to the larger sources of their work.

If you take away why YOU write from this, and if you take away the social construct of checking in with people because you want to know how they’re doing, why would someone read what I’m putting out there? Are they getting something from it? Is there this… “Hmm, maybe I’ll try that?”

And if so, wouldn’t boiling it down to the part people get from it be better than throwing out all the rough edges?

This isn’t about reassurance or wanting to feel validated. I don’t need that. I’m asking a specific question for the sake of improving the value of this website and the feed people get from it.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
