Small Boxes 04 – The Blues

December 7, 2006 · Comments

I’ve recently come to accept that December isn’t my best month. I’m not as sad-sack as this video would have you believe. But it’s hard to show gradients of emotion through video. ??

Wow, what a video! I do hope you're not quite as glum as it seemed though...

My similar mood hits right after Christmas. The Christmas holiday itself, with all its prep and joy, gets me through most of December, but then I'm heavily into introspection and regrets into the New Year, as I cover up last year's flowers, as you say. It can also be an exciting "new start" time of year, but always preceded by the more glum recap. So in short, I know how you feel!
  • Chris, for what it's worth, you make outstanding videos when you're feeling blue. This really felt like an authentic glimpse inside the Brogan machinery.

I used to become a grumpy bastard when it got cold in New York. That lifted completely moving to California -- my winter dread is gone.

With regards to 2006 in the online video world, it's been a ramp-up year for a lot of us, I think. The hype is building, and I think 2007 will see money flow into this world and by the end of '07 we'll see a shake-out of shows and creators who can't hang in there long enough to find a way to make it work. Many of these creators will have very legitimate reasons for giving up or shifting focus, I should add. Not a lack of fortitude or anything.

But of course along with the inevitable shake-out, we will probably see an even greater influx of new shows, as well.
  • Great video. I'm feeling a little down myself but, like you, I know it will pass.
  • I picked the music after the fact, and man, it took me a few edits to make it line up so well. It was a LOT of reworking.
  • I had to come back to add my comment - I really really like how you had the windshield wipers go *swoosh* when the soundtrack swooshed!

Are you picking your music first and wrapping a video around it, or the other way 'round?
  • I was in the mall yesterday.

It was all red and green.

    Not many people were shopping.

    Had inner with Carol.

A couple of nice cold Sam Adams Winter Lagers hit the spot.

    Our waiter ruled.

He explained the special as some type of fish that was tough to pronounce.

I told him that I didn't want to order any tough fish.

Hey Man- Nicely done. Good bit in the middle "I'm starting to sound all emo." :) I was almost waiting for a mention of the fact that birds were dying.

Jeez that shot at the end with the pills and the diet coke... freaked me out for a second there.

Just so ya know, even from the reaches of cold December, you're still an inspiration. Don't let the bastards (by which I mean the snowflakes, those frozen hexagonal bastards) get you down and all that.
  • When you're stuck you feel crushed but when you're rolling you can crush anything.
  • Great video Chris! I have always loved the car filming for some reason. Hey, you need to move over to God's country. We didn't get any snow.
