I spent the better part of yesterday walking around town, asking the local business owners to put a stack of my company flyers in their stores, and I quickly learned that walking into the store and going straight to the counter was *not* the best way to go. Instead, if I went in and looked around a bit, maybe bought something small or just chatted with the owner about their business, they were much more open to helping me promote my own work. If you take an interest in people, they'll take an interest in you - it's that simple... Your point about people being people is *so* true.
