In recent talks with Mitch Joel and Julien, we realized that we’d like to come out with a way to extend the conversation in even more ways than before. We think there are a blend of ideas from both books and the three of us that might work nicely together. To that end, we came up with a way to put it all together.

Mitch Says:

The three of us want to bring the concepts in the two business books to you, but we are looking for leaders. All three of us command substantial public speaking and consulting fees, but we have decided to wave both the honorariums and travel expenses (within the United States and Canada) for those who can bring 200 people together in a room.

In fact, I’m going to lift most of Mitch’s post and put it here to make it more consistent:

We’re calling it: Building Trust In A Connected World Summit.

Here’s the deal:

Purchase 200 copies of both Trust Agents and Six Pixels of Separation(amazon link) (a total of 400 books), invite 200 people (but you can feel free to invite more) into a room (you take care of the room, food, AV, etc…), and all three of us will spend a half-day with your group (each one of us will speak for 45-60 min individually, and your event is concluded by having all three of us on-stage for a roundtable/Q&A session). In order to make summits as easy as possible from a logistics standpoint, we also made an agreement with the bookseller, 800-CEO-Read, for a special bulk-buy rate (save nearly 40% off of the retail price).

But wait… there’s more… (snarky infomercial line for dramatic effect):

As a special “thank you” for taking a leadership role in your community and organizing a Building Trust In A Connected World Summit, one of us will also supply your own company Blog with a guest Blog post (topic to be decided between the parties) and will also lead a private one-hour consulting session for you and your team (yes, you can pick favourites as to who you would prefer).

Why are we doing this?

Clearly, we want to sell more books. But, selling books is useless if no one takes the concepts from within the pages and turns them into action. In both books, there are countless mentions of how individuals are becoming leaders in their business communities – both online and in real-life. These many new digital channels, platforms and online social networks facilitate the ability to connect to like-minded individuals, but it’s taking the online connections and turning them them into real results that matter – that means meeting in real-life, sharing and connecting. That’s what this is really about.

Become a leader right now. Create a Building Trust In A Connected World Summit today!

If you are interested in leading a summit, please email Mitch.

Today is the my friend Mitch’s big push for his book, Six Pixels of Separation: Everyone Is Connected. Connect Your Business to Everyone. (amazon link). It’s a great book that teaches us how to connect in meaningful ways online, and what that means to our business. It’s a solid book, well-written, and one of the six books I’d recommend people put on their bookshelf, if they need a thorough understanding of how social software changes the web. Watch this video and then I have a special offer for you.

Mitch had no idea I was going to do this, but I tell you what: if you show me proof that you’ve bought 10 copies of Mitch’s book, I’ll write a guest blog post for the first 10 who show me they’ve done it. Buy 10 copies, get a guest blog post from me. Again, my limit to this deal is ten offers (I can’t guest blog all the time. I barely have time for my blog!), so if you want it, come and get it.

Let’s show Mitch a good day for his launch. Why? Because his book is very much in alignment with what Julien and I believe, because Mitch is a good friend and top shelf professional speaker, and because Julien and I are both interested in the future of how books are promoted (for obvious reasons).

Are you in?

I’m ridiculously biased. Why? Because I love Mitch. More so, I’m a friend. More so, he writes really nice things about me and a lot of my friends in the book. So, yeah, go somewhere else to get a review. Forget about me.

OR realize that I think it’s a really damned prescriptive book and that you can take it and find things to do on nearly EVERY page. I jotted down stuff I need to do, based on my read through. And you? You might have all kinds of extra stuff to do when you finish. Check it out. Mitch is the shit (which is a technical term for “really good writer and thinker”).

Penn and I are doing a podcast together called Media Hacks (site coming later). Julien already wrote about it, as did Mitch. Essentially, it’s our homage to the style of the Gillmor Gang (we have a long way to go to earn the comparison) around marketing and stuff.

Episode 1 is here. Please note: Julien has a potty mouth. He says a lot of curse words. A LOT. But hey, it’s expression, and he was full of energy.

The group who’ll speak on the show will rotate a bit from episode to episode, but we think you’ll enjoy it. What it will be is a somewhat guided, but very energetic discussion about the marketing (mostly online) space, and we expect it’ll evolve over time.

What’s fun about doing a group show like this is that we all come from this at different angles. What’s also of note is that we’re all veterans of PodCamp, but this idea didn’t stem from that directly. I love that we’ve evolved in knowing each other over the last few years, and that it’s a project where we can work together, make something, and hopefully spark conversations.

One part of all we should be doing in the social media space involves actually experimenting with the tools and making our own media. How can you stay current in the space if you’re not playing with the toys?

We’re using BlogTalk Radio to record it. Lickity easy. There are lots of ways to make a show like this, and you might use recorders and do it at one place. You might record Skype or Gizmo. In the old days, I was really worried about podcasting tools. Now? No way. Dial into BTR, let the control panel do the work, tidy up the file, and we’re done. (I was just the talent, but that’s how easy it is).

The first episode is ready for your perusal. More to come.

What makes this idea cool is that anyone can mash anything into a theme and build a conference of ideas around it. Not the same as a face-to-face event, but this took me about 40 minutes of searching to find hours of great information that I could curate into my own project. Know who’s believed in this forever? Steve Rosenbaum at Magnify. He pioneered the idea of video curation as a creative effort a few years back, and is still going strong.

What’s YOUR Pixelated conference going to be about?

We know this, of course, but this is particularly brilliant. Mitch created the Pixelated Conference: a business conference you can watch at your desk, or from home on a weekend. He stole the idea from Future Now.

Now, I’m going to steal it and mix it up a bit more, and YOU can help.

The Pixelated Blog Conference Series

Here are the steps:

Decide on a theme

Find videos from YouTube, Blip.tv, Magnify.net, Google Video, whereever

Write a blog post and call it Pixelated- (and then your topic)

Insert the videos as if they’re your speakers at the event

Tag the post “pixelated” and also “conference”

Link to http://www.twistimage.com/blog (as homage to Mitch)

Spread the word, and we’ll all come “attend” your conference

I think it’d be tons of fun. How about you?

Mitch Joel over at Six Pixels of Separation is asking for best practices for social media marketing. I’m going to turn it around and ask YOU to answer Mitch. If you’re doing interesting social media stuff, specifically that you have some best practices for social media marketing, I think you should do the following:

Blog it.

Link to Mitch’s blog

Tag it “social media marketing best practices”

And then tag someone else with the meme.

A best practice from me:

Learn how to listen. Simple, I know. But it’s a best practice. Here are five tools I use for listening, and here’s my take on listening to Twitter.

So, go write a blog post for Mitch, and tag a few friends.

Here’s who I’m going to tag:
Jeremiah Owyang (who’s in my town partying while I’m writing this), Sean Bohan (who brought me back my suitcase), Micah Baldwin (who it was fun to see at Gnomedex), Liz Strauss (who is fun to see everywhere), and Paisano (who fills my inbox with free research).

Have at, and don’t forget to link to Mitch, and then tag other folks. (And if I didn’t tag you, feel free to write your own post and tag others.)

These posts are made for sharing. Feel free to repost all or portions of this (as long as it’s not for profit). If you do post it, please make sure you kindly link back to [chrisbrogan.com] and give me credit. Thanks!
