Thanks and Continued Connection – Overnight Success

December 25, 2009 · Comments

As part of the Overnight Success series, I wanted to end this year’s posts by talking about giving thanks and making constant connection. Essentially, you can’t be an overnight success without the help of others. Give thanks to these people all the time, not just at the end of the year.

If you can’t see the video, click here.

And if you want, check out the rest of the Overnight Success series.

Thesis WordPress theme

Thesis is the search engine optimized WordPress theme of choice for serious online publishers. If you’re a blogger who doesn’t understand a lot of PHP, Thesis will give a ton of functionality without having to alter any code. For the advanced, Thesis has incredible customization possibilities via Thesis hooks.

With so many design options, you can use the template over and over and never have it look like the same site. The theme is robust and flexible enough not only to accommodate a site like ChrisBrogan.com, but also to enable the site to run far more efficiently than it ever has before.

  • Chris, I've heard about you so many times and see your Twitter posts, but this is the first time I've actually watched a video of yours. I will now be watching every single video you put out!

You are so authentic and genuine (hmmm, those mean the thing)...I really like what you're doing. Thanks for being who you are.
  • nice post
  • Chris

Just wanted to say, this is a great series. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts and look forward to additional installments. Especially like how you're shooting these in what would otherwise be "down time" moments. Good subtle reminder to all of us who say we don't have time to do this kind/volume of content creation.

    Happy Holidays.
  • Thank you, Chris, for walking the walk. Best wishes for a happy, healthy and wildly Prosperous 2010.
  • Chris I want to thank you for keeping in touch with those still at the bottom of the ladder, for sharing with us wisdom, for making us feel connected with greatness. An Overnight Success doesn't ever forget where he came from!
  • Thank YOU! for sharing all these very useful and inspiring videos with all of us.

Thank you, Chris, for your Overnight Success series and for being a guiding light through the morass of our modern digital life. Please keep up the great work.
  • Well said. Thank you is important and thank you is powerful.

Thank you, Chris, for being a friendly face at conferences and an all around good guy. I look forward to seeing what 2010 brings for you.

I am always amazed at the people who claim to be too busy to do the simple things like thank, acknowledge, and praise others. They get so busy that they forget to honor the people around them who help them reach their success. Then they bitch that others do not continue to cultivate relationships and the rationalize that it it the other people that do not "understand". Just take a little time to say "thank you". Also, things like putting in the effort to comment on the work of others, link to their online stuff, leave comments on their blogs, etc... All these things say "good job"... and folks notice. My guess is the Chris Brogan notices things like all these comments folks leave on here (I know he does...as he takes the time to acknowledge those who are part of his community... and that is why he has the community in the first place).
  • Thanks to you too Chris. My favorite thing about your message this year is about consistency. And the fact that even though you've traveled and been on holiday, you have still stayed in the loop. Somehow managing to bring something new to our attention. You are so right about being present and staying connected. The actual "consistency" part, I am still working on ;) (so, much technology, so easy to get sidetracked. . . ) but it's really great learning from each other (indirectly, I mean, that's how this "human business" works. Right? We are all learning. . . from each other.)

Social networking has really flourished and become business friendly these last 2 or 3 years thanks to people who are brave enough to the think outside the box. And thanks to the people who are brave enough to take business back to the basic hope of meeting a person's needs. One person at a time. You have been able to meet so many different types and statuses of people at their level and open doors for each type to understand how to do the same. You and Julien should be very proud or your book and your blogs. You have both truly lived up to your title: trust agents. I can't wait to see what doors will open in 2010!!!!

    Happy Holidays,

  • A lovely continuation on the theme you spoke about during your keynote at BlogWorld this year. I linked to that video in a post I put up today about the Shared Twitter Experience and how we are all connected. http://bit.ly/sharedx

  • "Essentially, you can’t be an overnight success without the help of others"

I couldn't agree with you more, Chris.

I personally don't believe a "self-made man" exists. Every successful person I know received help one way or another from other people. Either from their own parents or some other mentors.

A good friend of mine taught me that the two biggest problems of small business owners are Ignorance and Stubborn Independence. And I still see that in some of my friends who continue to struggle in their business.

Thanks Chris for your interesting series.

  • A good friend of mine stocks up on cards and stamps every month. She sends hand-written Thank You cards to the people she runs into monthly and the rest of the people in her network. She says that's sure, it's a process and yes, sincerity takes time. But man does it work wonders for keeping and staying "top of mind" with people and ultimately, it keeps the phones ringing and the referrals comin'.
  • You are welcome! This is one of my favorite blogs and I love it because the information is so useful and actionable.

I agree that being grateful all the time is better than just once a year!

Thank you, Chris. And as Harvey Mackay used to say (and hopefully he's still saying it), 'dig your well before you're thirsty.'
  • I've heard about Chris Brogan many times, but it wasn't until today that I started listening to you. Your overnight success series is awesome!
  • I'm glad you're here, Henri. Welcome to the team.
  • SO Chris, replies to people or DMs? Which is best?
  • Hmm? I try replying wherever I can. Sometimes I get a bit behind, but I do my bit.
  • Back at ya!
