That Moment of Love

Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park

I’ve been listening to the Collision Course (amazon link) mashup album with Linkin Park and Jay-Z so much that it’s become something of an obsession. There are lots of reasons. One, I like the music. Two, I appreciate the mastery of the collaboration. Three, there’s this Mike Shinoda moment that I love so much that it makes my heart pop every time. I have to share that with you.

That Moment of Love

I met Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park very briefly at Blog World Expo, and at the time, I didn’t really have much to say. I mean, I like their music, but I didn’t know what to say. What a waste. Because now, after watching this a million times, I want to ask him about this moment at the end of “Izzo / In the End” :

Look at that love. Look at the feeling he exudes here. Mike has this attitude throughout the video.

When I started watching the videos, I was studying Jay-Z. Thanks to Justin, I have this appreciation for Jay’s business acumen and his drive. But now, I think I want to be Mike. No doubt, Jay-Z feels love for his audience, but Mike exudes it.

I feel that kind of love when I’m around the other people I’ve met coming up in new media. I love Chris Penn and C.C. Chapman and Julien Smith and a gazillion other people I’ve met along the way. I need to keep that in mind. I need to keep that feeling in my heart. Because otherwise? I’m just doing work.

In another post some time soon, I’ll write about how Tim Sanders demonstrates this kind of love.

For now, hats off to you, Mike. I want that moment.

  • Love is sustaining in all we work on and keep perspective. Wonderful post Chris.
  • You just forgot that link to BWE. LOL We love you too Chris!
  • Thanks for this post. It is such a simple thing, but I have really been struggling for the last year to market the product I designed and developed (an online LLC formation tool). The products where originally designed to help others, but each time I worked on online marketing I felt so fake and unconnected (totally artificial). This article helped me to see that it is my attitude. The attitude I develop with needs to be the one I market with. Thanks!
  • Ha! I love that I've led you down the path to becoming obsessed the same way I am. Shinoda definitely has a ton of passion. Since I was already a huge fan, I took some time at BlogWorld to talk with him. It was definitely a really memorable moment for me. I arrived at BlogWorld *super* early so I could get a front row seat.

When you combine the business acumen that both Jay-Z and Mike Shinoda have along with the hustle and passion that both exude, you come out with a pretty good mixture. One of the reasons I listen to tracks like those and watch videos like I regularly post is because they help to continue giving me those little pushes especially when I'm tired or wonder if I'm taking on too much.

I have a ton more for you but gotta keep feeding you in small doses ;)
  • What I'd recommend, if you haven't listened to it already, is Fort Minor - Mike's solo project back in 2005. Listening to his words and thoughts that he puts into these amazing songs really pulls you into his story and his life. Love this album.

  • I agree! I love the Fort Minor album as well as all of the mixtapes that had come out before the album was released. It's great to hear Mike tell stories throughout it.

I just posted "Remember the Name" to Chris' Facebook page because Fort Minor rips it on that track. I love it because it's all about hustling and passion! :)
  • Great insight after the previous post. I wonder if that's what your thinking about - the link between the two - the contrast. Very cool,

It's refreshing to read a post where you've peeled back the layers that we analyze everyday to to the true reason we're reading your blog in the first place. Love of what we do. Thanks, Chris.
  • Love. Awfully hard to fake it!
  • Love. Either you have it for what you do, or you don't. And it always shows. Nice post Chris.
