To My Friends – Thanks.

December 20, 2006 · Comments

Photobooth Rocks 2I’ve been really tied up in lots of things lately, and I’m sorry I haven’t been keeping up with my blogging. In fact, I just wanted to stop for a moment and talk to the people that really matter to me, and who I haven’t really connected with as much lately. I want to say thank you.

I’m truly sorry for that.

Kevin, Megin, Becky, Ben — You’re all amazing! Thanks for running Grasshopper New Media without me barely popping my head in. If you didn’t know it, these four (and several wonderful contributors whom I also love) have made wonderful work without my help for several months. I thought I’d find a way to run everything very well and still do my other work, but I’ve not yet adjusted to the new job, and I’ve let Grasshopper suffer the most for it. I’m sorry, and yet, thanks. Because you’re doing interesting and meaningful work. Thank you.

Chris & Bryper- You and I have so much work to do, and I’m excited for every bit of it. I’m looking forward to PodCamp Boston 2 (and lots of the other events), and I’m really grateful for our brief IMs. I like hanging out with you online, and I look forward to meeting up in person again. Ditto Steve Garfield for Boston 2, and MMOTV.

Jon, Rob, Michael S, Paul — Thanks for being such great, spiritual people. I’ve enjoyed your counsel, your kindness, your friendship and your insights. You all four have done a great job of giving organized religion a better name in my book. I’ve particularly liked the phone calls and Skypes. Very nice, indeed. Jon- you are an inspiration nearly daily.

Rob and Megin – You get a second entry because as a family, you’ve been the host of several of the most relaxing, best family-related experiences of this year. Thank you for that. I love your family, and I have such a great time having the occasional dozen beverages with Rob while grilling on your deck.

Michael & Persch — Something about the PodCamp, PME, Video on the Net, and PodCamp Pittsburgh thing has me putting you two together as soldiers in this space all trying to make it all turn out. I’m excited about 2007 for all of you. I have enjoyed hanging out with all of you and count you as friends that I hope do well, and count on.

Whit– If I had half the energy of you, I’d still be 30000 watts shy. You are astounding, endless, boundless. I can’t believe the amazing ideas and thoughts and feelings and sentiment you put into everything. You’re clearly 200% of a human for all that you manage to do in a day.

Courtney, Dale, Laura, John C. H, Podcampers I might miss by mistake — Our conversations in and outside of events, including taking tours of NYC, hanging out at breakfast meetups, and wherever else we’ve gone. Those matter to me a ton.

The new media community at large- amazing. You’re all amazing I love hanging out with the Eric Skiffs, the C.C. Chapmans, the Bryan Person (king of New Comm Road), Steve Garfield. I’m loving getting to know Steve Woolf and Zadi, Casey & Rudy, Hayden, and others. Julien Smith is a god. I’m grateful for the Canadians like Uncle Seth and company. Scriggity! Drew Olanoff and the team at PolariTV are really poised to knock stuff over in 2007, too. MARK DAY! Total riot. Thank you to Dr. Pascal Venier, a GTD hero.

Justin and Jim — I dont have many guy friends that I like to call and just bullsh!t with, or crack silly jokes, or talk seriously about things that concern me. For whatever reason, I feel like I can call you guys, share what’s going on, and get the sense that we’re in this together. I’m grateful for that, and man.. there are just too many stories already. Thank you.

Jeff and some of my new colleagues — I’m loving this opportunity. It’s drinking from the fire hose, but I’m loving the chance to do it all. Thanks, and then some. Really really. Especially Stu Milberg. You’ve been great! (A.L.)

If you’re still reading, thank YOU. If I didn’t call you out by name, I probably love you, too. I’m tired.

More to come in a “year in review” type post later on.

Thanks for the nods Chris. I take great pleasure in our family get togethers. For me, it is where community begins. Thank you for helping me to see where community can go.
My love and gratitude to you, Kat, V and H.
Have a wonderful new year! It's hard to imagine one better than '06 for you, then again, knowing you, it's not really so hard.
  • Chris...We Love you man.....no really..we LOVE you man...

    Happy New Year!

  • It was super neat to meet you via the screen and phone in 2006 Chris. I'm looking forward to meeting you in person next year!
  • Merry Christmas Chris, and to everyone else!
  • Aw, shucks...
  • damn, hell of a conversation this started. :) looking forward to hanging out again dude. not nearly enough of that!
  • Please tell Kat we all really appreciate her as well. Balancing work and life can really be hard, and having someone who loves you and loves seeing you do what you love is a really special thing. It means still understanding even when you want to throw a toaster at your spouse- trust me on this one. I'm married to an OB-GYN and this means understanding that babies will be born when they are good and ready, not one minute before. Missed kid events. Last minute change in plans. Flexibility becomes the name of the game, and when Matt promises "It'll get better after x,y,z" I know that he means it, but I also know that I need to accept that this is just part of how we live right now. So thank you, Kat, for keeping Chris together, for lending him to us from time to time, and for the laughter of those gorgeous kiddos. You are fanatastic, and I hope we get to meet in 2007!
  • Chris Rulez!!
  • Dang it--

I missed Jon Glassett, my old high school friend rewritten as the new media musician to beat. (Go to http://angrysumo.com)

I missed Andy and Victoria and Will and all the Pittsburgh folks.

I'm sure I missed you. I'm having trouble remembering.
  • I don't think anyone sweats the lack of personal blogging too much, we all know how busy you are running around and setting the world on fire :)

Heck, all I did was go out and get myself a new job and I've barely blogged or podcasted since I got there! I've got to work on that :)

I certainly echo what Kat said. Thanks to everyone mentioned here and all the other folks in this community. Finding so many incredible like-minded and creative folks in the past 2 years has changed my life, and given me new hope for what we can all do together!

I'd like to thank all these people as well.
I don't actually interact with most of you directly but still you're part of my life.

The reason I support Chris so fully is because I know the people who are part of his passion are equally passionate about thier own/ each others work.

So thanks for having his back. I'm a very loyal soul and it's good to know that this community has loyalty in it's blood.
  • Sure has been a crazy year and 2007 is only going to get more insane in a very cool way indeed!

Just stay sane in all your travels. Don't forget about good old Boston. :) I know you won't.

    See you soon.
  • Thanks Chris.

    MMOTV?

That gets 76 hits on Google. I think y ou've got a good acronym there, even though I hate acronyms.

That the pre-VON media day, right? Is there some where to read about that yet? Does it have an upcoming page?
  • Chris- you are my new media mentor, simply put. Always there with some good advice and willing to bring me back to basics when needed. Thank YOU for everything this past year-Pod Camp and all the people I met there have changed my life and how I look at things. I feel very lucky to know you, and the energy is easily spent on things I care about- There's nothing better than feeling like all cylinders are firing on projects and you are making headway. And I know 2007 will be even more exciting than 2006. You've got so much to be proud of this past year, I hope you will get some time to be able to appreciate what wonderful things you have done for so many people. The passion and caring you have is genuine, and felt by anyone who has been fortunate enough to shake your hand.
(And for better or worse, you now understand ADHD!)

your post proves that you are what your business card says you are: community developer. You are able to identify people in community 0.0 and 2.0 with equal ease (and equal apologies) who now know each other in 0.0 and 2.0 because of you. People who can relate independent of you and yet really like you. People who have business and personal, congitie and emotional (and yes, spiritual) connections.
You've done well and done good and...no wonder you are a bit melancholy.
    Merry Christmas.
  • Chris! It's great getting to know you too. Here's to an exciting 2007! :)
  • Thanks for mentioning me in your "honor roll," Chris. 2006 was bigger and brighter than I ever imagined, and here's hoping 2007 is even better.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
  • we luv ya mayor, thanks for an awesome 2006. now its time to kick some serious ass.
