Tony Steward from LifeChurchTV

March 20, 2009 · Comments

I was really happy to have a few minutes with Tony Steward, the online community pastor for LifeChurch.tv. Tony’s an energetic, passionate guy with a lot of great ideas about what comes next. I liked what I saw of LifeChurch, and so I asked Tony to talk a bit more about it. We shot this at SXSW09 at the Pepsico Podcast Playground.

Originally, I thought of LifeChurch.tv as a place to cater to those who couldn’t make it to church, like shut-ins and others who are physically infirm. Tony explained that it went far beyond that. Quite interesting, to say the least.

  • Chris - thanks so much for this video interview and for covering one aspect of what's happening via a Christian organization on the internet. As our lives migrate online, it's no surprise we want to bring our faith with us. Tony Steward & LifeChurch.tv are vital elements in the pioneer efforts on behalf of churches worldwide who want to see the internet used to reach, serve and love people. As one of the most respected leaders in your field, I appreciate your attention of their work. And, we all want to hear more......
  • Thanks for sharing this interview... Tony represents all that is right with the online church movement... meeting folks at their need, not shoving content, heart for people, generous with his knowledge, open source about ideas, brimming with integrity. After getting to know him in the United Nerd Life Group these past six months or so, I can say he's the real deal.

Glad you two got to connect. :-)
    @decart

P.S. You're no slouch either Chris Brogan.
  • Of all the people I met at SXSW, Tony was my favorite to hang out with and the only one to follow up with an email after the week. Such a great guy, and working for a great cause. Thanks for sharing this, Chris! And keep up the great work, Tony. :)

  • Great interview Chris. Such a valuable blog and Tony has some great insight.
  • Great succinct interview. Most churches need to learn a lot about web-integrated ministry. LifeChurch is leading the way and they are because they understand they have to keep pushing the envelope of how online tools can meet people right where they are...in their home and online. Thanks for the interview Chris!
  • What I love about LifeChurch.TV- it's fresh, relevant, innovative- and super interactive... Tony Steward rocks as well as the whole team that make every week happen!

    Great job Tony!
  • Very cool to hear about variety of applications in social tools. Church online? Sounds like community.
  • Great interview!

So cool to see the two of you come together. Tony is national leader in how we merge technology, faith, and community.
  • Chris it was fantastic to get a chance to meet you face to face. I've learned tons from all you've invested in your blog and the community around it - keep it up!
  • tony steward is the man.
  • Something that Tony said struck me as a core statement of what social media, networking and media is and is not.

"...we meet people at their point of need not throw content at them."

A lesson that should be recited every morning while engaging with others. Where is their point of need? How do I meet it?

Thanks Chris, great little snippet of wisdom.
