I’ve been remiss in not getting back to you — it’s this brutal travel schedule. In fact, on my flight home tonight I hope (if I don’t fall asleep) to write a follow-up post based on all the comments to my item. But I did want you to know that, while I didn’t articulate it well in my post, I did understand that you were talking about advertising and sponsorship in your post. But if the dollars flow to video, doesn’t it fall that dollars won’t flow to audio? Hence my point about radio thriving despite the growth of TV in the 40′s and 50′s.

Also, most of the video I see — even that which is compelling and heartfelt — is broad and general. That might get an ad for soap from Procter & Gamble, while my audio podcast — aimed at people who practice PR and organizational communications — gets a sponsorship and advertising from a media monitoring service and a communications company, neither of whom would perceive any benefit of advertising on something that reaches a broad audience. A lot of audio podcasting is all about the niche!

In any case, I regret not meeting you at PME, too. I was only there for a few hours — in from Chicago the night before and off to London the next morning. But we’ll get together one of these days, and I’m buying the drinks.
