Why I Dont Visit Second Life

I found this at Eric Rice’s site, but it’s 100% apropos to my experience using Second Life:

Exactly! Real Life is a bit to much to handle as it is. Who needs pixels to complicate it even more?

Second Life has allot of potential, but it still needs allot of work.

As a platform for distance learning and simulated learning experience, more to the point, it is unquestionably top drawer.

We’ll look back in 10 years time about how quaint 2D web was.

Check out http://www.simteach.com/wiki/index.php?title=Institutions_and_Organizations_in_SL to see how many educators are researching the platform.

I don’t envisgae the future being SecondLife, but I do see it as being a more 3D experience.

If you want to talk about engaging your students (and I know you are all about engaging Chris) you would be wise to check out 3D learning environments, where knowledge can be socially constructed.

I’m confused. If you aren’t in Second Life, what virtual world are you in?

I have been playing XBOX extensively after the kids are in bed and proof positive that 3D representations of self (and stuff to do) is not a foreign concept.

I want my own server and a current 3D engine.

That’s a funny video. I shy away from Second Life because I spend waaay too much time on it when I log in. The reason I spend so much time is because of those same re-enactments. It takes too long to do simple things. It also tends to lock up after a while, causing another round of waiting to log in.
