Why Jason Falls Rules

December 2, 2008 · Comments

Jason Falls is visiting Chicago. I was speaking to Amber Naslund, and said that she should say hi to Jason. I then went on to say that Jason never calls, never writes, never sends me flowers, and that he should give a guy some love now and again.

About two hours later, I’m visiting the office. I’m not in the office much these days (why should I? – customers are out there). Brendan comes by from out front with a HUGE surprise. Watch this video:

There’s a social media lesson in here, too: surprise your customers. Surprise your colleagues. Do something remarkable.

Thank you, Jason, and thanks Amber for the support.

Visit Social Media Explorer and Altitude Branding to see the minds behind the surprise attack.

  • That is fantastic, and a brilliant reminder that "Social" is the most important aspect of "Social Media."

Amply demonstrates why I follow al three of them on Twitter and RSS.
  • Great reminder - and your very real reaction tells the whole story. It mattered. It made a difference and the fact that it was done so quickly after your comments was just as important as the what, the flowers.

Cool stuff. Jason and Amber do rock!
  • Very cool. BTW Guys send flowers to other guys. I know because a famous author and blogger, name withheld, sent me flowers.
  • That is AWESOME! Social media moves well beyond the computer. Did you say it was only an hour and a half between when you complained you hadn't heard from them and the flowers showed up? Hahaha, what a good way to make a Tuesday just a bit better.
  • Instant gratification much? Good example of LOVING the speed of our world.
  • Just goes to show you that you are awesome. Jason Falls is awesome. Amber is awesome. Your social media friends are full of win.

    And the flowers are lovely.
  • Cute. Really!
  • Cool things about this:
    1) the power of connection
    2) the power of friendship
    3) spontaneous random acts of kindness
    4) Chris's ability to 'man up' when many would have shied away (flowers? a guy?)
    5) Chris's ease and manner with shedding the light on others

PS--I agree, Jason and Amber are both smart, funny peeps. And I've never even met them in person. Hope to one day at a conference near you. :-)
  • Damm your videos are clean, Chris. What's your secret? Is it viddler, are you using a superb camera or some other tricks
  • That's awesome. Jason's a great guy.
  • Chris,

This answers the question: "How can I get my clients to tell others about me?"

    John
  • That is too funny! We love surprising publishers and bloggers, too. Usually, we send t-shirts and tech gifts, though. Props to Jason (and Amber) for sending those. Hope they got you your favorite flowers!
  • Very, very cool. And yes, this also corroborates the fact that behind every good man is a great woman (with FTD on speed dial).
  • That is awesome, Chris, and kudos to Jason, Amber or whatever other "freaks" were involved in putting it together! :)
  • Impressive. Those are nice flowers :)
  • End of a long day here. Just finished watching the video and smiling. Thanks for that. Excellent way to acknowledge your friends' gesture (which was hilarious in and of itself). Oh, and the flowers are lovely. So glad I follow you three.
  • Nice... that's the kind of thing i'd expect from those guys - and it is a great reminder to surprise folks every once in a while. Hoping to get a chance to see all of you in person soon.

    Nice site redesign too.
  • This is pretty cool. It indeed shows the social part of social media. Yes, Chris, Amber, and Jason all have careers in basically the same field, but this shows that their work isn't the only thing they have in common, they're just regular friendly people. Amber and Jason are two of my favorite people in the arena of social media... they both reach out and help people. Jason has answered my questions to great lengths on numerous occasions. Thanks guys and gal!
  • Who rocks more than Jason and Amber?! Apparently you! ;-)) Very, very nice. (Amber has great taste in flowers, no?!)
  • Too cute.
  • Haha! You guys are awesome! Seriously though, that's pretty cool...

If you do Blogworld again in '09, buy Jason a drink at his favorite bar :-P
  • Just to offer for the record, it was my idea, I called the florist, I begged them to turn it around in less than an hour and a half, I selected the flowers and I paid for them. Yes, Amber was an accomplice. But damnit, I have taste and love Brogan and have the receipt to prove it.

I'm a little disappointed Chris didn't share the card in the video, which I also asked for, which said in very nice script (Chris has it on Flickr), "Jason Loves You."

And as much as Chris laughed, cried and cursed, Amber and I did too. It was the most fun thing I've done since junior high.
  • Aww, Jason, I never doubted ya for a minute... ;)

That's really cool, man; really cool.

Friends like that are hard to find, Chris!
  • Getting caught up (yes at 2 a.m. when else am I supposed to do this?) and this made me smile.
I already knew they both ruled - but now? Well they are both in the awesome-book-of-awesomeness!! :)
  • This is so cool - the best thing that has happened today. Truly made me smile :)
  • LOL, awesome, thanks for sharing this with us.
  • Well done Jason Falls. That is a great example of how you build relationships.
  • What fun! That's the spirit! I'm giggling for all of you!
  • You even sent a card Jason. Impressive! But no oatmeal?...lol!
  • Deb
We should all be so freaky!
  • Very cool. Social media and networking aside, this shows the power of an act of love and kindness. Awesome stuff.
  • Jason is a great guy and although I have never met him in person, he always takes the time to help out and give advice to me when I am a nobody in the industry and just getting started. I have learned so much from his blogs posts and discussions with him and look forward to his insights everyday. Everyone should subscribe to his blog http://www.socialmediaexplorer.com/

  • Chris--

Sent you Jason's response on video via Facebook. :-)

    Heidi
  • Ah, well I can only take credit for being the instigator...I passed along the message that you were missing Jason, and his devious brain clicked into immediate action. I merely dropped the hint that I might happen to know where you were at the time...

But man, I have not laughed that hard in a long, long time. Your reaction absolutely made our day.
  • I love the "misty eyed look" in Chris' eyes in the video - Whether it's for comedic effect or not, it makes the video a classic.

How is Jason able to be everywhere in 24 hours? The guy has esp and a very good heart.
  • Best line from among the comments: "Your social media friends are full of win."
  • LOVE it! The flowers are gorgeous! What a treat and such a fun thing for a hump day.

Just wondering...was Jason your first? I know it's pretty rare for a man to receive flowers.

Connecting social media with real life is the best part of all. Thanks for the example.
  • Too funny! May or may not be a little odd, but funny nonetheless.
  • Noble
Good day! The babes are here! This is my sexiest site to visit. I make sure I am alone in case I get too hot. Post your favorite link here.
  • Aww. Now if that isn't true bromance, I don't know what it is.

(Eww, did I just say 'bromance?')
