Why LOLSaur Really is Cool

At the most recent iteration of PodCamp, we once again saw something new come into play. This time, it was the LOLSaur site. Basically, it’s a site where you post silly, bad grammar “jokes” over pictures of dinosaurs. Basically, a spinoff joke from I can Has Cheezburger. It’s easy to think this isn’t that interesting. Except that it is. Here’s why.

Fast

This went from joke to customized website and content in only a few hours.

Rapid Participation

People self-organized, built the site, and rushed to make it firm quickly.

Learning Experience

This project incorporated a lot of learning in a very brief time.

So, you can crap on it, because it’s a bit silly, or you can think about how fast someone can turn an idea into a project, and a project into a group experiment in learning to be proud of, should you take a moment to consider it.

Completely agree. From what Bre said, it apparently took 2 hours from idea to getting on the front page of Digg? That’s truly awesome.

It was a blast being part of this. And to all the haters, I love hate, bring it!

This one is debatable. I feel like I’ve seen one like this with cats before.

Maybe it is the picture of the Tyrannosaurus Rex that grabbed me first, but this is a great idea. Two hours from idea to getting on the front page of Digg - amazing! You Rock Stars are inspirational!!!

Comment by Dave LaMorte on October 29, 2007 @ 12:00 pm

It’s silly, but it’s a good kind of silly.

Very cool. What I want to know is, when is the video coming out? ;-)

I completely agree. This was all about collabolration and community. Smash boom, like Kat said. 2 hours and the site was up, and I couldn’t be more excited to have been a part of it.
