WordPress Theme- Thesis is a Winner

July 15, 2008

Chris Pearson has now, once again, created a delightful and powerful and useful WordPress theme called Thesis that I think is worth the paltry $87 USD he charges for it. I am gawking at it, wondering if it’s going to be the next evolution of [chrisbrogan.com] . It’s really that good looking and powerful.

See, that’s the thing with Pearson. He doesn’t just make gorgeous themes. They do something. They have typography, SEO, administration, and other tweaks built all through them.

If you’re looking to start a new professional blog or give your existing WordPress blog a much more poewrful theme than the free one you found on that site one day, you might give Thesis a look-see.

Oh, and in case you didn’t know, it’s Chris’s fault that CopyBlogger looks so good.

I was looking at this one myself, since I’ve changed my theme twice in as many months. It looks good.

Thesis is an incredibly practical and beautiful theme. The formatting Chris teaches for Thesis is so simple. We’ve used this on client’s blogs and I’m wondering about making the switch myself.
Go for it Chris!

I’m a proud Thesis user and I love it. The first version was good and the second version is better. Plus once you purchase it, you get the upgrades for free. Also Chris is still coming up with new things. I read in the comment section of Thesis that he’s planning on a magazine style layout as well for it.

Definitely worth the $87 bucks!

Wow - that is slick.
And $87 is a STEAL for that kind of user customization and readability.

Hi Chris,

Considering the amount of money people pay consultants to design websites for them, this looks like something to seriously consider.

If he’s got all the code in there, all you need to do is customize the design to the client’s preference. Do you know a good Boston area designer?

For that matter, do you know a good Boston area Wordpress coder?

How about someone who knows both? That is the holy grail.

Sometimes I just want to pass off website design and support to someone I know will handle the initial install and customization, and then be there for ongoing support.

It doesn’t even have to be someone local, but I’d be interested in finding out if there is someone local like this.

One thing to keep in mind when moving to a Wordpress.org site like this is that you need to handle all the upgrades and backups…

If you aren’t prepared to do that http://wordpress.org is a good alternative, among others.

Comment by steve Garfield on July 16, 2008 @ 7:30 am

I meant http://wordpress.com is a good option for those not interested in hosting a http://wordpress.org blog.

Thesis is a fantastic theme. I just purchased it about 2 weeks back and already Chris has given the theme an upgrade that sets it so far apart from other premium themes.

But, it isn’t just the theme that you’re buying. You’re getting a phenomenal support system which Chris himself manages. His customer service is second to none, which I personally believe is hard to put a price on.

Thesis is only going to get better, which is unbelievable considering how good it already is.

Thesis looks fairly nice :)

I’m a newbie blogger (and new to this site, as well) and I loved the look of THESIS, but was worried I wouldn’t be able to figure it out and there’d go my 87 bucks.

So, I wrote to what I thought was a big company asking if there was a money back guarantee for idiots like me and within 24-hours I received an email from Chris Pearson himself saying he’d happily refund my money if I had any trouble. With PRE-SERVICE like that, I’m goin’ for it.

Thanks for all of the great info on this site!

I’m going to release a free Thesis killer in the next few weeks. Better typography, better SEO, better everything. And it will be free.

Some interesting customisations of the theme at the Thesis showcase here http://diythemes.com/thesis/showcase/

Looks interesting, but why pay $90 when you could just build it yourself :P
  • December 31, 1969 at 4:33 pm Ben Parr
...and then you get to the $89 price tag.
  • December 31, 1969 at 4:33 pm Sarah Perez
    wow, that's a nice-looking theme!
  • December 31, 1969 at 4:33 pm Mo Kargas
I reckon $90 isn't bad. I don't claim to be the fastest developer, but it would take me at least 3hrs to make a theme of this calibre, and that's more than $90.
  • December 31, 1969 at 4:33 pm anna
    very nice

Nice theme, but I'm not sure it's $90 nice...
  • December 31, 1969 at 4:33 pm AJ Batac ♘
Overall, a good theme. If the author priced this $29, would prolly have more sales than $90. $90 is just expensive for a WP theme. But that's just me I guess.
  • December 31, 1969 at 4:33 pm Bjorn Tipling
If you can make that theme in 3 hours Mo Kargas, then you are a fast developer
  • December 31, 1969 at 4:33 pm Bradley McSpinn
Great theme...but in all honesty, I'd take Pirillo's FREE WicketPixie theme over it.
  • December 31, 1969 at 4:33 pm Mo Kargas
Lol, thanks Bjorn :) Someone should tell my boss. @Spinn, totally agree for the grand price of free

I saw this theme on a few occasions. It just doesn't draw my attention. I must be missing something.
  • December 31, 1969 at 4:33 pm melmcbride
Agree with Sjorn. I need free. But cost is no object for some.
