Working on My Swing at Work Life- workshifting

Work Shifting New Marketing Labs (that’s my company) and Citrix Online (our clients) have launched a new blog to address the web commuter space. workshifting is a blog for those of you who work out of coffee shops, hotels, and airports every bit as much as you do the office (sound like you? It’s me, for sure!), and as such, there are tips about gear, travel, web commuting best practices, ideas for convincing the boss that it’s good for you, and more.

The site also features a very special report called Worldwide Workplace: The Web Commuting Imperative. Download it in the sidebar at workshifting. This was put together in part by the Worldwide Workplace Council, a group of top thinkers on the whole mindset around web commuting and the shifts these types of opportunities have made in the working world.

I’m proud of this work in a few ways. I’ve been an unabashed fan of WebWorkerDaily since it’s launch on the GigaOm network, and you know I love Dell’s Digital Nomads site, too. For me, this is a way to start a ball rolling in this space, to contribute, and to build a little on the conversation, especially in helping other workshifters connect with each other.

Please, if this interests you, swing by and check out workshifting. I’m really proud of what we’ve started and I think that workshifting will add some value to your work life experience.

Your feedback is welcomed. : )

Looks great! Seems like you've got some good things going here. Sorry I don't have much feedback for anything, but it was interesting reading.

Hi, Chris. I just came across your blog and I like it a lot! Congrats on the launch of the new blog. I definitely love the design of the blog and the concept behind it. So many people are working on the go and I think this blog would be very appealing to them.

    :-)
Clearly you needed another project, Chris!

I would always listen to what you had to say on this matter Chris, you have documented many times on this blog about working out and about, I myself have just begun to make the transition to mobile worker, although I am no CEO, or person requiring to fly, I still need to make better use of my time whilst out in coffee shops, and I know this site will help so so much, thanks a lot :)

    Chris,
Looks like a fun and value-adding site for the community…looking forward to reading more.

Not sure if this counts as the kind of feedback that you're looking for but a couple of quick things I noticed on the About page:

    1. What if workshifting.com? Maybe it's a deep or clever wordplay that went over my head. If not, I'm looking for “is.”
    2. Period missing in the first paragraph of Dr. Antecol.
    3. Formatting goes from one paragraph to multiple paragraph bios…?

Looks like there is still some work to do on that page that I'm sure someone is already aware of (pics, extended bios, etc.) but just thought I'd pass those along for someone to take a look at.

    Good stuff!
    Kris

    Oooh looks nice Mr. Brogan.

Have to admit I've been working outside the homebase more than not of late… It's hard to get in a rhythm when the environment isn't always conducive for me. Look forward to insights.

Hi Chris – I love the design on your new workshifting site. Is it also running with Thesis? Who did the design?

Sounds like a great thing! I work at home because I don't have a laptop to be mobile. I know crazy as it seems. I am still behind the times but only because I can't afford to get one just yet. I will give go by the site and see it.

Looks like an awesome resource with a great design! Glad to see you passionate in this area Chris! I've been working a lot on Location Independent community outreach recently with folks like Lea Woodward of http://locationindependent.com/blog and this new site will be of great interest to a lot of us “LIPs” (location independent professionals)

    Thanks :)

I love the term. LIP “Location Independent Professionals”
I'll have to start using that to describe myself and my peers!
    Grats,

    Mike

Thanks for the pointer to your new site Chris.
As you can see from the comments you seem to be on the leading edge of this.
While I have always had some time dedicated to airport/coffeehouse connectivity, it hasn't been until recently when it has become more of a staple necessity than a kitchy alternative.

    Best as always,
    Mike
