A Digest of Some Recent Posts

July 17, 2009 · Comments

Our Rented Cabin In Damariscotta MEI went through just a handful of the most recent pages of my blog and found some posts I wanted to share again with you. The reason I’m sharing them again is to point out that I think these posts were all pretty decent, and because you might be able to make use of them for your business. Further, I wonder if there’s value in a digest of posts like this from time to time, such that you can read a whole bunch at once. What do you think?

Recent Posts From [chrisbrogan.com]

Are any of these worthy of the best-of page? Is there any value at all in putting out the occasional digest post like this?

What’s your take?

    • recycling old posts by putting them in a digest is a good idea. It shows me posts I may have missed, but could use. Thanks!
    • Yes, I think so - new readers will see a listing of your best and it will bring them to the top of your page so your readers are not required to search archives to see/find them.
    • I read all your posts but that's a good idea - sending a digest out every so often.

AH! I feel as if you have been speaking directly to me in the last few days. This is an excellent idea for a Friday, end of the work week post. Gives us complainers something to get through over the weekend and really think about.

I really like this idea for purely selfish reasons. 1. I'm returning from vacation and I'm very behind in my reading. 2. This points me to what you think your best messages are. (Or is that assuming too much?) 3. finally - it will serve as a good reminder of things I should be doing with my business, blog, social media tools that I sometimes tend to lose sight of.

      So... Thanks!
    • Never mind the posts themselves (all good reads), how about that tag - "oldcrapusedagain"?? Awesome! How long 'til Google picks that up? ;-)
    • I think this was one of the most valuable article's you've written! : http://www.chrisbrogan.com/strategic-blogging-a...
    • You are a smart Cookie Chris. I shall take a nibble.
    • I don't know if warrants a "Best Of," but I can attest to the fact that "Shut Up You Self Promoting Turd" is a piece I wish everyone had to read. Unfortunately I know it doesn't resonate with most, they'll go right on being pontificating egomaniacal idiots, but even if it doesn't make your "Best of" you can find comfort in the fact that it made my top posts of the month list.
    • Love the digest format, information moving at such velocity it's easy to miss this helpful info. Keep em coming Chris!
    • I like the re-cap of posts idea. Please do continue doing it!
    • You know what would be cool? If it was setup like an actually digest. If the best of posts were collected into a PDF file that could be downloaded and then you could either print it out or just keep it on you computer/iphone and read it at your leisure even offline. Thinking out load.
    • Ben, I second that idea. The amount of times I visit blogs and websites, and then have to move offline with my iPhone, I would love a .pdf format of a blog which can be downloaded and viewed offline. I mean Google Reader does the "offline feature", but it only allows feeds to be viewed offline rather then actual articles at the website.
    • This is good stuff, Chris. I think 'digest posts' are also a really good way to give a new, or less engaged reader a more panoramic view of the blog/author. I'm planning on doing something similar and keeping a 'sticky' link to it above or with my blog's archive links. A 'sample platter' of the personality and feel of the blog / selected topic, if you will.
    • Thank you Chris! This gives people a great entry point into your posts to accelerate the learning curve if they've fallen behind like me.
    • Big thumbs up to the digest idea.

This is cool Chris - even though I read most of your posts, I do miss some; like a couple you reposted here. Thanks!
    • Chris,

I do it once in a while at milestones: one-year annversaries or a certain number of posts (100, 250, 500, for instance). I get lots of great feedback from my readers and for a few weeks they do bring traffic to posts that deserve a few more eyeballs, so yes, I'd say they can be useful. And somehow, though I think I never miss a post, there are two in here I haven't read, so now I'm off!

      Regards,

      Kelly
    • Publishing a digest of posts periodically is a brilliant idea that provides great value. I personally saw some posts that I had missed when they were first posted, and am also happy to reread some that I have already read.
My favorite in this batch is Make Presence Management Work for You...but they are all great, and deciding on a favorite was not easy!
    • Especially for long-running blogs like yours, digest = valuable! TheSimpleDollar.com does weekly Time Machine posts that I like a lot.
    • Chris - Great idea. Good ideas never go out of style. This is an idea I'm going to borrow and give you full credit.

Reminds me of what Zig Ziglar says - "I always give credit because then if it doesn't work out I can blame the other guy!"

    • Thank you, Chris - this was incredibly helpful to someone like me, a technological dinosaur who is new to the world of social media & your wonderful work. Already looking forward to your next installation. Your writing is a delight to read - clear, informative, and fun.

Have been thinking about doing this myself on my blog. Had a few great ones/fun ones a couple months back and was thinking about re-introducing them.

BTW, on your successful blog item list, I think you can add that any headline containing the word "turd" is going to be a winner. I am going to work that one in at least once a week.

      Hey Chris

Yeah - I miss posts from time to time, so a reminder of posts you think really worked really works.

And even you can't write jadediamondgold EVERY day, so a little sifting helps us.

Don't dismiss including your shorter 'here's a thought' posts - sometimes those are the ones that make me think harder.

*makes note to remember that for himself...*
