AwayFind Launches Big

November 13, 2008 · 13 comments

away find I’ve been a user of Away Find since last summer, and I find the service has helped me manage my inbox a great deal. It’s essentially a kind of “super away message” that helps one try and manage people’s expectations. Imagine being able to customize what people get for a response message upon sending you mail, such that they get a better understanding of how you intend to interact with them.

Founder and all around super nice guy, Jared Goralnick has such a personable level of service to the product that any early bumps in the road I felt during the beta phase were cleaned and treated nicely, with lots and lots of personal follow-up. (Disclaimer: the mistake ended up being ME not the software.)

The only benefit I see of this service over Gmail is that you can receive SMS updates on important emails including phone numbers, that is a usable feature!

Overall I like the concept, but will be interested to know how many will click the link and fill out the contact form. Keep me updated with figures of people who do!

Thank you, Chris! I really appreciate your support both as a user and for being so kind as to post about our launch!

Josh, the user of the product gets to really set the bar on how often they want to be contacted depending on the context of how they link to their AwayFind contact form.

Do they say, “if you need me today, click here” or “if it’s a total emergency and you don’t know my cell phone, click here”?

Most of our active users get 1-3 messages delivered per week, so by any conservative metric you can assume it’s fewer than 2% of messages turning into “AwayFind issues.”

Thus most of the time people write emails, they’re willing to wait for a response within a day or so and we can afford to be responsive without being available. That’s where AwayFind can help, separating the rare cases when something more immediate is necessary.

Hope that helps to clarify!

Cheers!

Big day publicity wise for you Jared, I only subscribe to about 10 blogs and your launch is on 4 of them already. Congrats.

hmmm… interesting concept… I believe I’ll need it when I’ve got daily message more than 100 per hour.
Thank you for sharing this, Chris.

Congratulations, Jared.

AwayFind is a great product that has certainly helped me be away and found the way that feels right for me.

Here’s to big days on launch day +1 and beyond.

Thanks for sharing this Chris

I had not seen this before and it sure looks like it would help keep distractions from ruining our daily plans. I plan on trying it out tomorrow (its late here right now).

As always I appreciate your valued input here on your blog and on twitter and actually all over the net!

Alright, I took a look at it… Set it up. Tested it. The who shabang! And I have to honestly say I REALLY LIKE IT!

@Jared: good stuff!

@Chris: thanks for the recommendation.

Now, do you recommend anything for phone calls? Something like Grand Central perhaps?

@ricardo - I’m a fan of SpinVox for that.
