Bury My Heart in Conference Room B

Stan Slap’s new book, Bury My Heart at Conference Room B: The Unbeatable Impact of Truly Committed Managers (amazon aff link), had a subtitle that immediately made me think the book wasn’t for me. I’m not a manager. And if I am, I’m a bad one. Luckily, I actually read the book. It’s a book for leaders, who may or may not find themselves in the role of manager, but about leaders nonetheless.

Here’s a quick video, and then there’s an offer:

Special Offer

Daniel Decker, who sent me the book, set up this special offer. They’re giving away 50 copies of the book, picked by random (note: to US residents only). You just have to fill out the form at this link to participate. Want the book for free? That’s your chance?

We should totally party together sometime. That room was well stocked with delicious bevvy’s :)

I’m very tempted to pick up this book now but I will admit I am just like you. If I see a book or article dealing with “management” it usually makes me run away screaming thinking of all the horrible sales and management programs I was exposed to in my corporate days. But I’m glad you talked about this because it reminded me to be more open to learning from all kinds of different presepctives.

Justin… I agree on the horrible sales and management programs out there. This one is different though. Stan has a really unique voice and perspective. Give it a whirl. Love to hear your feedback when you do.

The book sounds very compelling. I just wanted to stop by and say Hi. I am in the process of reading your book Trust Agents. My husband handed it to me this morning. He said, “Here. I just got this book on Amazon. Thought you would be interested in reading it.” So reading it I am. I am enjoying it very much. Much food for thought. Anyway, back to reading now. Bye for now.

Just received this book as a gift, and I have not completed reading it, but so far, very compelling, and just by reading, I get the sense Mr. Slap is extremely quick, his writing style is such that he knows what his reader is going to think next. He’s trained in the management-think style, and provides a quick answer to any objection that rises in the readers mind.

    Great read (so far)!

Heya, Justin. Stan Slap here. I wrote this book so that companies can achieve emotional commitment from their managers — the Holy Grail for the enterprise — but the driving force was to make the business case for a manager’s humanity. We lose that and we’re all in a lot of trouble; we save it, manager by manager, company by company and we’ve saved ourselves. Chris nailed it a key point in his review. You don’t have to be a manager. The book is about how to live your own deepest values in any relationship with any organization — company, family, community, world. This is your one and only precious life. Somebody is gonna decide how it’s going to be lived and that person had better be you. Hope you dig it.
