A Great Use of Google+ for Business

The Corcoran Group is doing marvelous stuff on Google+

If you want to see someone using Google+ for business very well, check out the Corcoran Group and what they’re doing. They’re a real estate firm who share so much more than their listings. Instead of focusing on their own properties, the Corcoran Group site posts photos and tells stories about interesting things to see around New York.

Their About page on Google+ is filled out enough to show people how to reach them, but not overly so. They’ve filled their video page with useful interviews with their staff. They take plenty of photos of New York that capture the beauty and diversity of the city. Just absolutely perfect.

But the secret sauce comes in the fact that they also comment and engage with their community and do a lot to respond to people’s comments and conversations. They are slowly gaining a following, as it’s early days at Google+, but they are most definitely worth checking out as a company doing it right. If I were hired to consult for Corcoran, I’d have to hand them back their money. I wouldn’t advise them to a single thing differently.

Oh, and if you want to follow me on Google+, I’m right right here.

“But the secret sauce comes in the fact that they also comment and engage with their community and do a lot to respond to people’s comments and conversations.”

Well said, Chris. One could argue that commenting, engaging, responding, and “being present” are really the keys to being effective on *any* social media channel. Agree?

Will definitely take a look. Thanks for pointing it out. I have been on the lookout for pages taking this approach!

I like your integrity. A lot of folks would say, gee, if I’m worth my salt I should have something to add here.

    And it is cool!

I would love to see those pictures, I only went in NYC twice but the artistic and creative energy was very powerful there!

I agree, good job. This is very similar to what I had proposed to a client about a year ago (although not on Google+). Despite our rationale and arguments to do so, the client just couldn’t see the value of being a community leader.

Hi everyone, we’re completely blown away by the reactions to what we’re doing on Google+, and absolutely thrilled that you’re enjoying what we’re up to. Today has been an amazing day for us. We can’t thank you enough for all the kind words of support and encouragement, and we look forward to ‘hanging out’ with you all soon, either in person or online! We often put a public hangout out there on Google+ for anyone who’s following us to drop by and say hi, so if you see we’re online – we’d love to meet you!

This is a great idea! I am a big fan of photography. Photos of New York is a great way to show what the place has to offer. I am already enticed and would want to visit or even… migrate? Thanks to Corcoran Group for putting this out on Google+

Chris, I love it that you, a heavyweight social media expert can point to someone and say, “They are doing it as well as I know how!”  Most experts don’t have the confidence to do that.  They must find some weakness or flaw to show how they are wiser than anyone else.  Just one more example of why I read your blog, each and every post.

Oh, and by the way, to the Corcoran Group, kudos!

Gotta say that another social network is the last thing I want. Looks though like + might be necessary.

Hmm, VERY interesting. I’ve been on G+ since the beta, but I admittedly haven’t really been too focused on it, what with Facebook, Twitter, etc. filling my “social space” so much.

Thanks for the case study, Chris–I’ll be sure to check out the Corcoran Group if, for no other reason, to see how their page is set up!

Keep up the great work, man!

Yes, I noticed that too. They are so proactive. That trait sorely lacking in other Google Plus business pages. It makes you wonder if they actually care about their network, eager to build relationships than to make a one-time sale.

All people are excited for the use of the g+ in the business , but none will get the best result through the g+. As all the businesses will try to promote their business through g+ and that is why competition is going to be on higher and every one need to provide something unique and extra ordinary to get the best out of it.

My take on this is that a lot of (most?) companies forget that the word “social” comes before media, so you end up with nothing more than adverts all over the place. If your customers, clients, prospects, etc. start thinking of your blog or G+ page as the equivalent of “junk mail,” then might as well not have a social media page at all.
